Been going to Joe's for years (Pell St is smaller and authentic). Although I will eat from whatever everyone else eats, I only order the dumplings. I consider the pork and crab dumplings the best in the city. In fact, if you go to Joe's, just order dumplings and do not bother with anything else
I visited Joe's shanghai with my dad based on recommendations by trip advisor. They don't take reservations but the wait is only about 20 minutes. We went on a week day and it was pretty full. Downstairs looks in need of a little refurbishing but the dining area upstairs is nice enough. The food portions are enormous and we definitely... More
Went for dinner mid week, good choice of food options available which were also really tasty. Very large portions, we had a dish each and shared a rice and we only probably ate half of what arrived. Quick service and the price was really reasonable for manhattan. Would definitely return again.
We had a take out order with pork fried rice, noddles and dumplings. Everything we had was delicious next time I'll try their soups.
The reason why I love this place is just for soup dumplings. The duck was just ok..i had a better one at Peking Gourmet, VA.
After watching a couple of TV chefs search Shanghai for the perfect soup dumplings, I've had an urge to try them. On a recent trip, Joe's Shanghai provided the opportunity. Ordered the crab and pork soup dumplings, fried pork dumplings, scallion pancakes and shredded spicy cabbage. All were wonderful. Service is very fast, so it's easy to reorder if you... More
first things first, CASH ONLY, you sit wherever they have seats (meaning with other people) Order the pork soup dumplings as soon as you sit down. Sat with a couple from China and they said this reminded him of his childhood. Crispy beef is AWESOME! Want a taste of NYC, then EAT HERE!
Gnocchi (aka dumplings) come in all shapes, sizes and flavors. I have been told that all three NYC locations have the same plump, ridge back shape. I had water and the crab meat xiaolongbao, and got Chinatown pricing (I was told). The decor was tables and chairs and the largest mass of people. Somehow the staff keep everyone satisfied.
