The food here was good and the menu was extensive. They also have some special South Indian dishes in a separate menu which is on the table, but these were not available on the (Tuesday) night that we had dinner here. There are a lot of vegetarian options. The service was efficient and friendly and the prices were reasonable.

Excellent food, fresh, well prepared to taste & generously served, at reasonable prices. Combine that with friendly, professional service, cold beer & a "Sitar Hero", and you have a 'must visit' place that should be on everyone's list.

Worst Indian cuisine experience of my life. I wanted to take my daughter to 6th Street to taste authentic Indian cooking, so upon walking past Raj Mahal, a barker, who I later realized was the manager and/or owner, enticed us to dine, pointing out the Tandoori Chicken dinner on the sidewalk board @ $19.95 with all accouterments. My first clue... More

I've eaten Indian/Pakistani food (and various types within it) throughout NYC, NJ, London, and Toronto. For a non-Indian, I know my stuff on Indian food. Raj Mahal is just terrible. I ate there last night with my husband, and nothing that we ordered was good. I think that the tandoori is made twice a week and they just keep reheating... More

My cousin, 17 year old stepdaughter and I were enjoying a "girls day" in the city, and stopped in to Raj Mahal for a late night dinner. We were drawn in by the live music and the letter grade "A" prominently displayed in the window. There was a lively crowd and everyone looked like they were having fun. So many... More

Have gone here several times over the years, ever since the street was a hub of Indian restaurants. It's a small place but clean and charming. Stopped again last week for lunch. Had the special lunch. Food was fine, as other times. Nothing special but can't go wrong with the price, I'll try dinner next time as I hate the... More

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
