We have eaten here a few times, but the first time we went there it was because we wanted to eat the chefs "Spiciest Dishes" - Mirichi Ka Salan (pepper stew) seen on food network episode .....so we tried the dish that is known to use the most amount of spices in one dish, and our review were..... The food and the portions were great. Everything we ordered was great and tested awesome. It is quite expensive though.

Splendid food: outstanding standards (esp. a shrimp biryani, chana masala), some non-traditional-in-the-US dishes as well. Cocktail list was good an imaginative, and the wine list was well suited to the dishes -- an excellent gruner veltliner especially. Two caveats: the prices are very high, especially for Indian in this city: it is possible to have a great Indian meal for... More

My husband and I tried this place during"restaurant week" and loved it. The menu was limited but expected. Everything we ate, from the appetizer to the dessert, exceeded our expectations. We went during lunch, so it was not as crowded and the service was on point.

We chose this for restaurant week dinner as it receives great reviews from several sources including the NYTimes Scoop App, which has rarely steered us wrong. We were seated upstairs and the ambiance was pleasant with great service and good advice from our server. The selections from the menu were varied - a nice surprise for restaurant week. We started... The food was excellent and abundant. Actually, we tried the vegetarian tasting menu (creative and tasty) and there was so much food given that we couldn't finish it all and had to take some home. Same with the dessert. The service was decent but the place was FREEZING. And the bathrooms were not as nice as one would expect for... More

Perhaps we have been spoiled but Devi simply did not manage to elevate itself in anyway or command the price point that it is pushing. Our service was more than adequate and delivered a nice and personal meal while offering suggestions. No fault there. The food was certainly solid but there were real highlights and lowlights and the highs simply... More

I'll start with the pluses... The food was absolutely amazing, probably the best Indian food I've had. One of the best meals I've ever had at a restaurant. A few of the dishes were a bit salty to my taste (in particular the okra salad) but overall the food was excellent. Service was good as well. My main complaint is... More

Devi serves great Indian food and it is located in a great location near Union Square so the small problems with the service can be overlooked. My favorite was the Fried Okra Salad and my husband's was the tandoori lamb chops. There were a lot of servers milling around plus two hostesses although the hostesses were very interested in hanging... More

Staying in Flatiron District

Neighbourhood Profile
Flatiron District
Offering many of city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets- much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighbourhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being the home of a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.
