Whenever I am in town I meet my friends there. It is a typical Bavarian pub and restaurant with a huge variety of German food and beer. Its mostly busy and has a cosy atmosphere. You can sit outside also. The staff is really charming and mostly German. Try the German/Bavarian culture. Its a must!!!

What a hidden treasure. This authentic German restaurant was totally enjoyable by true Germans. Try the schnitzel, spaezle, and or schmaln! The beer and gluhwein were great. You won't be disappointed if you are looking for a true German experience in NYC!

I had enjoyed the atmosphere at Zum Schneider long time ago watching a World Cup game, but I recently had the pleasure of having dinner there. The Wiener Schnitzel I ordered were delicious, and there are many other great food options on the menu, as well as a plethora of beers. Service was very friendly and attentive, with a good... More

It's always difficult to find an authentic German place that isn't too "Americanized". Zum Schneider does a pretty good job of hitting the mark. Sure the Nürnberger were not up to my finely honed palate, but the weisswurst were totally legit, and the brezn were too. The beer is authentic and everyone who had it seemed to enjoy the Wiener... With actual German staff, Zum Schneider is an adorable and authentic restaurant with a lovely selection of German beer and food. The interior makes you feel like you are in Germany. It's clean, comfortable and enjoyable. I recommend it if you love A good time.

Been here with friends a few times. Food and beer is great. It's a dark, old, wooden place but it makes you feel you're in Germany.

Good actually wonederful food. But this particular evening, the place was not only a restaurant but also a meeting point for lots of noisy people drinking pints and two pinglasses of german beer. We literally couldn't hear ourselves speak.

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
