Reservations are recommended if not required. It is New York after all. They are known for their steaks and it is easy to see why. Cooked to perfection and very tasty. The sides are served family style and are large enough and easy to share....More

The ambiance was classy and elegant. We ordered a yummy steak and halibut. The service was nice and so were the cocktails and wine. Not all the staff were equally welcoming but most were. Large portions!

The ceiling was falling in in the dining room! My husbands steak was just average. I had a chicken that was extremely over-cooked and tasted like a rotisserie from Walmart. Everything was A la cart and extremely overpriced for the quality of the meal. I...More

This busy old restaurant has a very jammed space for sitting and we felt a bit uncomfortable to be seated in this small space. The steak is too dry and burnt and we think less juicy. Seafood is ok but other food is less impressive....More

Beautiful food - just huge! If you can eat a cow, go here. Great service and well maintained. Maybe a bit pricey.

I've booked in at the restaurant - is the grill at the same location? (I read in another review it's around the corner?!).

Description
One of America's most successful restaurants, this New York steakhouse opened in 1977 and has been a hit ever since.

It is one of the most trafficked restaurants in New York City and among the most celebrated steakhouses in the world. Specializing in fresh seafood and lobster and assorted steaks and chops, Smith & Wollensky is well recognized for its healthy portions, seasoned service staff and pop Americana ambience.

The painted wood exterior is dark forest green trim on sparkling white, with latticework trim. The elegant interior has turn-of-the-century appeal and design elements including shining brass, dark wood accents and polished wood floors.

Adjacent to Smith & Wollensky's is Wollensky's Grill. The Grill (entrance on 49th St) is open from 11:30AM till 2:00AM but does not accept reservations.
