We dined here for my friends 40th birthday whilst away in NYC. The food was excellent no question but the service was flat and certainly not as attentive as the staff at the London branch. I can say I have dined at the famous and original S&W steakhouse but won't be going back there. I have since been to the... More

I went with my husband whilst in NY for a few nights. We reserved a table online. Check in process lovely. Coats checked and show to our uostairs table. 2 starters, 2 mains, 2 sides, 2 bottles of wine and 1 ice cream with tax and tip $380. One of the most expensive meals I've ever eaten. Waiting staff attentive... More

We celebrated our 15th Wedding Anniversary here and whilst the food wasn't the best we'd ever had, the ambiance and the surroundings were lovely. A busy place but the waiting staff are brilliant and deal with orders and service very efficiently. A nice touch at the end when they provided us with a dessert on the house for our Anniversary.... Manly place to eat steak. You get what you come to eat. Servers are well trained and have the brash NYC attitude. Food was typical for a chain; never the less, better than Ruth Criss, Morton's and I dare say Palm and Bobby Van but I ate at their Flagship in NYC. If you are hungry and have a big... More

Dined at the famous New York City steakhouse this week, not overly impressed. The bar was very crowded, partially due to them using it for some private event. Tap beer priced at $8.75 I assume is typical for the area. But S&W is supposed to be about the steaks. I usually order a ribeye, but I decided to try the... More

This place is great. We had starters of shrimp and lobster. Followed by fillet steaks. One peppered and the other with Roquefort sauce! Both medium rare, accompanied with asparagus, baked potato & broccoli. Couldn't finish it all, so got a doggie bag. Very busy as usual and well worth a visit!

If it was only for the quality of the dinner (good although not sky high) it would deserve 4 stars, but the value for money drags the review down because it's too expensive (and wine is crazy expensive).

I must say that the food served was very nice & for the prices it should be, but the waiting staff were so miserable not really bothered to explain anything like we were in the way. Not acceptable when they expect tips!!!!

One of America's most successful restaurants, this New York steakhouse opened in 1977 and has been a hit ever since.

It is one of the most trafficked restaurants in New York City and among the most celebrated steakhouses in the world. Specializing in fresh seafood and lobster and assorted steaks and chops, Smith & Wollensky is well recognized for its healthy portions, seasoned service staff and pop Americana ambience.

The painted wood exterior is dark forest green trim on sparkling white, with latticework trim. The elegant interior has turn-of-the-century appeal and design elements including shining brass, dark wood accents and polished wood floors.

Adjacent to Smith & Wollensky's is Wollensky's Grill. The Grill (entrance on 49th St) is open from 11:30AM till 2:00AM but does not accept reservations.

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
