Arrived to a very friendly bartender who poured me what was effectively a double while I waited for the rest of my party. A nice start. The room is long and narrow in what is really the basement of the town home. We were seated in the middle of the room and like many reviewers have mentioned, it was very... More

Yet another one of NY's hidden town house located restaurants, may of which serve the best Italian food in town. This focuses on Roman delights as in Rome but everything is good. Only issue is you can't hear you table partner - that's an exuberant crowd in a hard surfaced space

Have not been there for a while now. Food is excellent! Service not so much. Expensive, good food, with an poor wait staff, not conducive to returning too often. Signature pasta with lemon sauce is to die for. Almost worth the ridiculous price for a tiny little portion! Too bad...

The title of this review summarizes three important attributes for a restaurant. Is it welcoming? Is it authentic in what it does and is it professional in its menu, staff and pricing. At Sandro's,the answer to these questions is Yes, Yes and Yes! Pricing is fair, especially as regards the wine list, where many NYC restaurants try to rip off... More

We had heard so many wonderful things about this restaurant that it became a must visit for us. The atmosphere is cozy, the service is very professional. The conversations at dinner with friends were priceless and for me enhance the experience! We had the Beet salad and zucchini flowers for appetizers. Both were absolutely excellent. We chose the pasta entrees.... More

Short, fresh, authentic menu served by a Roman chef of substantial portions who himself loves food-- obviously. Exuberant guy. He's very precise about his food and the way you are going to get it is his way, but it'll be worth it.

This is a lovely, busy little restaurant. The wait staff are all Italian, so you feel like you're in Italy! There's an extensive, reasonably priced menu. The food is good and the staff helpful and friendly. The grappa to end the meal is delicious.

Real Italian ingredients and recipes made in a simple but excellent way by a great chef. The atmosphere is 100% "romana" and the service is truly friendly and refined. The best "bucatini all'amatriciana sauce" ever eaten abroad. If you are willing to a real italian trattoria experience in New York city do not look further Sandro's.

Sandro knows how to cook his food, but the noise engineering in this place is miserable. Thankfully, there is no background music, but people speak loudly in NY and women scream to show that they enjoy. So a conversation becomes impossible. Of course the only reason to pay NY prices for a meal that in Italy will cost a fifth... More

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
