I can't even really describe how good their cookies are. It's like cookie dough and muffins had a baby. Nice and crispy on the outside, gooey and soft on the inside. I got one of each cookie and a baguette to try. Cookies are well worth it and then some. 2 people could easily share a cookie they're so big.

Been to Levain several times when visiting NYC. Not many places I would wait in a long line but for their cookies and other breads and pastries, I always make an exception. Very small basement level area that holds perhaps 10-15 at most. Quick service, great choice and reasonable, especially for NYC. I recommend all but particularly the oatmeal raisin... More

we live near this levain's, which always has a line stretching down the block anytime that the weather is halfway decent. the cookies are actually piles of cookie, and they are addictively amazing. firm and cookie-ish on the outside, but soft and yummy on the inside. get the flavor that just came out of the oven! they are intensely sweet,... Levain is on W.74th Street, just off of Amsterdam Ave. It is easy to miss were it not for the line of people. But the line moves quickly probably because of the limited selection of cookies to choose. They offered Chocolate Chip with Walnuts, Oatmeal Raisin, and Double Chocolate Chip. One cookie costs $4 and are more dense and high... More

This is a must do if there is no line. The cookies are certainly different (big but chewy, not too cakey)...but sometimes the line is really long...check it out when the line is shorter

Amazing bread from the shop on the west side. I wish the Harlem store sold bread, but the cookies there are the same great giant things as on 74th street.

If you can get to Levain by 11am on Saturday or Sunday, you will have a chance to get the most delicious treat, a warm, walnut sticky bun and a great coffee. If you're running late, forget it. They will be sold out.

This is not a restaurant, it's a bakery with amazing cookies and morning pastries. If you eat a whole cookie - particularly the chocolate peanut butter ones - with out sharing you are probably over-indulgent and selfish.

They have the best cookie I've tried so far! I just can't stop eating it. Each cookie is huge and ooey-gooey. Worth every penny esp. compared to other overrated bakeries in NYC. Just thinking about it while doing this review makes me crave for it. I would definitely come back and highly recommend this to anyone.

Best cookies ever! Having one rich, decadent cookie is like eating four so the price is worth it. Fortunately I've never spent more than 15 min in line (must have been off-peak time) so it was worth the wait.

Description
Nestled in New York City's Upper West Side, Levain headquarters is a cozy neighborhood bakery where locals are greeted by name. A steady stream of loyal regulars stand side by side with tourists, eager to sample the legendary baked goods. From an inventive array of rustic breads to the world-famous six-ounce chocolate chip walnut cookie, everything is baked on-site, fresh every day from the finest natural ingredients. What doesn't sell that day goes to help feed the hungry-a mission that has been solidly in place since the beginning. The bakery was founded in 1994 by friends Connie McDonald and Pam Weekes. At the time, Connie was in banking and Pam in Fashion. The two, both competitive swimmers, trained together for the Ironman and-not surprisingly, as their tireless workouts left them feeling starved for great food- they began a passionate dialog about creating the world's greatest chocolate chip cookie. Within just a few years, Levain Bakery had become a neighborhood institution and a destination for epicurious travelers from around the world. Demand continued to grow. In 2000, to satisfy their regular clientele summering in the Hamptons, the two opened a second bakery in the village of Wainscott on Long Island's East End. And today, through their website, they now ship their world-famous cookies to happy fans around the globe.
