Reviewed yesterday NEW

We put our name down at 8:30pm on a Sunday night. Had a hotdog, went next door for a drink, came back to check up and found there were still three groups in front of us. Went away to have another drink and got the call just before 11:30. We were really hoping for a spectacular bar, but when we... More

Recommended from a tour guide in Central Park and well worth the visit. Clearly from previous reviews, it is a busy location as more and more people are aware of it. The location inside a hot dog shop adds to the experience, I didn't know what to expect when I walked into Crift Dogs and saw 3 people huddled around... More

We've been there with my GF, first the guy at the entrance told me "you have to come back in three hours" (and the bar was closing only two hours later), we came back one hour later and that time my girlfriend ask and they told her "ok in ten minutes". Two guys were just before us the second time... More

Try to make day-of reservations if you can get through (it took us several tries) because you will love this tiny place. We went for the novelty of it, which is worth it in itself, and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the cocktails and friendliness of the bartender. Very enjoyable!

A friend took us to this great little place in the East Village. Very nice cocktails (manhattans, martini and planters punch). Get there early even on a Sunday night. Nice experience.

tucked away in an unassuming underground pizza shop, with some old furniture and arcade booths, is a well-hidden speakeasy, accessible through a fake telephone booth. once in, you get ushered to your own private corner, and start picking from a wide cocktail selection. service was prompt and friendly, very nice vibe. would go back again when in New York.

We came on a Monday and line was long to wait to put name in phone booth. It was 8pm said it would be two hour wait. For what ? An expensive drink. Went next door to listen to live music and had a better time. They called us at 11pm but by then we were sick of waiting.

A little gem in my favourite NYC neighbourhood in the East Village. The cocktails may be a bit pricey but they are so so strong! You can order hot dogs or tater tots from the Hotdog cafe that holds the secret entrance to this speak easy style bar. Get there early to avoid the queue. Sumptuous eclectic decor and great... More

Called to be sure we could get in at 6. Had a dog prior, till 6. Didn't want to be pushy to get in. Yet there were others there being ya pushy to get in and arrogant too? Once past the booth and at the bar it was pleasant. Great song section. The booths would be great if four in... More

The closest thing to a speak easy you will find. However, even on a Monday night, I had to wait half an hour. You go to the pay phone to put your name in. Don't just wait in line. That was our mistake. The bartenders are knowledgeable and helpful. Not being able to decide, the bartender asked a few questions... More

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
