The menu is great. The selection for vegetarians is extensive! The prices are reasonable for the portion size. The service was great. The wait staff was most friendly and helpful. The food was tasty. I would return.

Food is correct, nothing extraordinary. Portions are a tad too big. Ambiance is fun and location is quite central. A bit expensive for what it is.

I found this restaurant to be very noisy ( I guess some would call it "high energy"). The food was very good, but a bit overpriced. We did have an excellent waitress and our table was one of the less noisy ones in the restaurant.

I stumbled across this as I was walking along. It was very busy, but the barman was paying attention and turned a potentially unremarkable experience into a memory that will stay with me for a while.

The Smith was recommended by a friend and it was a great choice. With only 3 days in NYC and being the food lover I am, each meal is very important and I am always questioning if I made the right choice (I know..it's a disorder ;)). Anyway....The Smith did not disappoint. We had reservations for 7:45, but the tables... More

First and foremost--Make a reservation, if not you will be waiting for some time. Even before you travel to New York, make a reservation if you plan on eating at The Smith. Next is the coffee. By far some of the best I've tasted in my travels, dark, bold, wake you up strong coffee. We had brunch and decided on... More

There is not much to this restaurant from the outside, but open the door and you will be pleasantly surprised. My teenage daughter and I had a great lunch and I had a cold micro brew. The staff were very friendly, the portions were large and the place has a nice vibe.

I'm from the midwest and have eaten my fair share of meats, but I must say, I have had the steak frites twice at The Smith (different locations) and both times, it's been a fantastic meal. The portions are proportionate to the price. Cocktails are also fantastic and the beer selection extensive. The atmosphere is very NY: lively, fast-paced, noisy... More

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
