The food is good here. I love soul food. It kind of reminds me of how Sylvia’s used to be a long time ago. The price is reasonable for certain foods. Overall I would recommend to anyone looking for some classic soul food.

Food: I had the fried chicken with yams and Mac and cheese. The yams were superb. So delicious! And the chicken & mac and cheese were pretty good. My dad ordered the famous waffles and wings which he loved. My mom got the fish and...More

I stopped by Melba's today while I was in Harlem. I went a little after it opened so I was seated promptly. The bar was open and guests were being seated on one side of the restaurant which was quite tight. I decided to go...More

A great find . Very warm welcoming and great service. A large southern homestyle menu. We tried most and all tasted really good. Naturally a heavy but delicious meal. The wine selection is good and the prices are very decent. A great Harlem find. Will...More

It was late, and I wanted something quick and simple. I ordered the braised beef with sides of Lowcountry collards and yams. I can’t say enough about how well this dish was done… I took a bite and was transported back to my childhood. I...More

When I first visited, I was blown away by both the food and service. Since then, the food has been hit or miss with each visit, but the one consistency has been the subpar service. I am normally seated relatively quickly, but despite that, often...More

The food was amazing. But the place is tiny. So the wait is almost unbearable. By the time you eat, you are over it. I took my food back to the hotel. The wait is way too long.

Everything about Melba's was average, except the music. We were a group of 5 woman looking for a good place for brunch before attending an all day festival uptown. Melba's was recommended by one of the volunteer students who indicated it served an excellent southern...More

Hearty, comforting soul food @ it's finest! Melba's menu has all of the traditional favorites (fried chicken, candied yams, mac & cheese, collard greens, etc.) along with healthier fare (quite a few salad options). The atmosphere is cozy & bistro-like with a smooth R&B soundtrack....More

Harlem
As a hub of African American culture, Harlem has
played a vital role in the history of New York City.
Today, the neighbourhood is as vibrant as ever as new
businesses and developments go up next to local
institutions. The heart of the neighbourhood is
bustling 125th Street, where street vendors and
historic landmarks like the Apollo Theater mingle with
big-name stores. Turn down almost any corner, and

They always have black eyed peas, but the service is a disaster there and it's not very clean. I'm not sure if they'll be open on New Year's Day. If they are the wait will be very long, since they don't manage their dining... More
