I honestly regret not taking photos, but who cares about that anyway. Take my word for it; the food was amazing. I ordered the crawfish pot pie. I could have eaten 3 and been happy. The portion size could have been much more generous, but...More

Very tiny restaurant. My 2 sons loved the burger. Staff were friendly. Little pricey. Limited menu. Not anything special.

We started with the potato & shrimp croquet, my wife really enjoyed it. It was too delicate for my taste. My Southern Ceaser salad was crisp, chilled just right with a southern flare including corn bread croutons. My wife's Green Goddess grouper was perfectly prepared,...More

Wonderful atmosphere and food! NOLA charm on South St. Stylishly decorated, accompanied by great Dixie style music. Big screen showing old movies overlooks bar. Food from apps to dessert was crazy good and service was prompt and knowledgeable. Must experience! Made for a fun night!

Convenient location, small gem of a restaurant! From the minute on entering, everyone from the floor manger, waitstaff, servers and bartender had their "A" game on! The cocktails and the food are really a delicious treat. Biscuits are hand made and freshly baked for the...More

This place is very charming. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful. The food is very filling. The mac and cheese is awesome. My husband loved the fried chicken. I don't eat meat, but still had an excellent roasted squash salad and pasta dish.

Description
Your home for quality, Southern-inspired cuisine. "Faded mansion" is the motif Weber and Malone were going for, and with the velvet curtains, potted palms, recovered wood, and wrought-iron accents, Rex certainly delivers that vibe, especially in the intimate back bar where such classic Dixie cocktails as mint juleps, lime rickeys, and Sazeracs are crafted while vintage films like To Kill a Mockingbird play on the TV." ~Craig Laban, Philadelphia Inquirer "But what cemented my appreciation for Swain’s cooking was the Hoppin’ John substrate beneath those pork cheek hunks. He uses Carolina Gold rice for his, and cooks it perfectly al dente. One of these days, when heirloom rice gains the cachet of heirloom tomatoes, that sentence will spring people into table-reserving action." ~Trey Popp, Philly Mag
