We were cruising Chinatown for something a bit different today. The awning of Rangoon on 9th drew us to the takeout menus. We took one, perused it (it was huge and varied) and decided to give the restaurant a try. We ordered two starters- Thousand Layer Bread with Curry Potato Dipping Sauce; and Crispy Watercress salad. The bread and curry... More

Friendly servers and staff! Food was excellent but portions were small. We will still return for next round soon.

Since I rarely have the chance to eat Burmese food, I was looking forward to having a new cuisine. It had unusual flavors that were spicy and had a zing to it - tasty! The waiter recommended the 1000 layer bread, but I didn't see anything special about it - plus, it was very greasy...the lemongrass soup was great. Be... More

Burmese restaurants are rare in the whole TriState area, so we decided to check out Rangoon. It has been in Philadelphia for 23 years. It is run by a group of very friendly Burmese who helpfully explain dishes if one is unfamiliar with the cuisine. Burmese food shares characteristics with Chinese, Indian and Thai food, with distinctive flavor profiles. The... More

I have been to Rangoon many times and I have yet to be disappointed. The service is efficient and friendly, and the food comes to your table hot and tasty. The restaurant has a very pleasant and open feel to it. I love the tofu with coconut sauce in particular. It is also quiet enough to have a conversation easily.... More

On our way back to the bus station after a day-trip to see the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, we came across the Rangoon Burmese Restaurant. Hot and hungry, we were too late for lunch, but perfect for an early dinner. Never having had Burmese food before, or waiter recommended the 1000-layer bread (we had the curry chicken sauce for... what a great opportunity in china town to try different regions food. we had sweet sour chicken and mango chicken. read other review so tried 1000 layer bread. didn't see anything great about it. agree with other reviews that hot dishes aren't that hot so if you like hot dishes ask for them to make them hotter. tried burmese green... This place is near by I95 and a park, so we hopped out to let our toddler stretch his legs then get a bite to eat during a road trip. We were pleasantly surprised by the cost, service, and flavor. My 2 year old enjoyed the broccoli and chicken with rice, and my husband and I each got a basil... More

On a recommendation from a friend, we stopped in to Rangoon during our Philadelphia trip. I was expecting something in the ballpark of standard-to-pretty-good Chinese food, but what we got was clearly a fresh, homemade, lovingly prepared meal. The most telling item was my husband's sweet and sour chicken, which was as far from standard Chinese restaurant sweet and sour... More
