We've eaten here several times and it's kind of hit and miss. Sometimes good, sometimes okay. This past week we went for breakfast. There were six of us, and two were small children. It was spring break, so I was expecting they would be busy, and they were. The server was fairly prompt with taking our order and bringing drinks,... More

The food is nothing to write home about, it's basically cafeteria food. But, one thing I will say is that it's the only place to get a meal near Fort Davis on a Saturday night, that isn't going to cost you 30 to 40 bucks a head. Business hours of operation are very hit-or-miss out here. The black bear surely... More

If you are staying in the Davis Mountains State Park at Indian Lodge, this restaurant is convenient since there is nothing close by. We ate here almost at closing one night so there wasn't much left of the buffet food. We did however like the tortilla soup and the fried catfish. We had breakfast here one morning and it was... Indian Lodge is a quaint historic gem in the Davis Mountains. Sadly, the meal at the Black Bear restaurant ranks as one of the worst we've had in years. I visited the Lodge and restaurant in the early 1990s and loved it. I recall a simple (but solid wholesome) breakfast and lunch menu daily. The meal in January 2017 was... More

The restaurant is located at the Indian Lodge Hotel in the Davis Mountain State Park. We stopped for a late lunch on our way back to Alpine after visiting the McDonald Observatory. You do not have to pay the park entry fee to dine at the restaurant. Our party ordered the patty melt, cheese burger, veggie burger, and the soup... More

Had read bad reviews on Trip Advisor, so almost didn't stop in while at Davis Mts. Park. Had friendly, good service and tasty, generous, freshly made sandwiches for lunch. Only bad part was having to make a choice of one item.

The convenience of the restaurant to the Indian Lodge is why we ate here several times on our trip. The service is slow as they are clearly under staffed. Many times the tables were not cleared of dirty dishes from the previous diner. Breakfast is your best option and even then it is just okay. Dinner was usually like warm... More

The Black Bear is located inside of Davis Mountain State Park. Whether camping or a day visit this is a good stop. I had a 6oz cheese burger with fries and tea. The burger was a hand shaped patty and fried on a griddle. It was served open faced with veggies and condiments on the side. It was tasty and... More

We had low expectations for our dinner but we were pleasantly surprised. The food and service were both good and it was pretty cheap. This is not fine dining but it is pretty good for a state park restaurant.

Dry inedible chicken, at least it may have been chicken; dry greasy shredded beef; canned pork and beans; carrots with so much brown sugar on them that they tasted like bad candy; butter left at room temp so long it was nearly melted, curdled soup held not nearly hot enough so probably was a cauldron of bacteria; desserts with whipped...
