We have had dinner at the Brookline Sichuan Garden several times when visiting family in the area, and have always found the service to be good, and the food to be fresh and delicious!

It's true that Sichuan Garden has gone downhill somewhat in the last few years, but it's still very strong Sichuan food. The menu is wide, the execution reliable if uninspired. It's not perhaps the most authentic place--one notes a constant thinness on the ma side of ma-la, for instance--but it's very strong by Boston-area standards. The short "new dish" menu... More

Tried this restaurant with 2 other couples. We have eaten at the Framingham branch but had not been to Brookline branch in many years. Found the food to be fine, what one would expect for a Sichuan focused restaurant. There was plenty of heat and the use of different kinds of heat. Food aside, the management at the restaurant was... We have been to this restaurant since it started way back when (at the turn of the century). We were wowed by the authenticity of the meals (especially if you ordered off the 'Chinese only' menu). Today though, the food has drifted down into average, if not mediocre. We're not sure if this is due to overworked kitchen staff (eg,... More

Was excited to try a new place for take-out Chinese. What a let down! Peking ravioli were bland with thick skin and undercooked filling. Dan dan noodles had a funny off-putting flavor from rancid oil. General Tso's chicken was goopy and bready without any vegetables. Stir-fried string beans had no flavor.

I've been here over a dozen times. Every visit has been rewarding. There's a varied Sichuan menu -- in fact a few menus. One includes specialties. The other has more standard fare -- but it too includes many great authentic sichuan dishes. This visit I sampled the sasuteed fressh pead pods and water chestnuts. They were fresh (well the water... Some outstanding dishes, especially if you're willing to make adventurous choices with the appetizers. The sliced white fish filets with napa cabbage leaves is probably my favorite entree. Service can be a bit erratic, depends on how busy it is. Prices are appropriate. Reservation needed if you are a large group.

We stopped by on a quiet Sat afternoon. In our quest for the best dumplings in Boston we had the pan seared pork dumplings and steamed dumplings in chili vinaigrette. Both were excellently prepared and had depth in flavor and nice texture. We also had hot and sour soup which we found to be top notch. Not overly doused with too much soy sauce... had pork dumplings and a lunch combo here...soup, chicken and broccoli, fried rice, spring roll. Large amount of rice and minuscule amount of chicken. egg drop soup was tasteless, spring roll was cold, comapnions chicken wing was cold. Dumplings had been already cooked and just put in a pan to make them "pan-seared" Nice to have table cloths, good service.... More
