Here is what I noticed - customers are smiling as they go in, and as they are coming out. The staff are friendly and of course, they are smiling too. My coffee and croissant were good enough to guarantee my return, and I am not a neighbor.

My family and I seem to be some of the few folks in town who do not like Athan's. I have enjoyed some of their cakes and the cappuccino I had there once was nicely made. But the cookies are dry and tasteless - like sawdust. Yes, it has a European atmosphere - but not necessarily a nice European cafe.

Felt right at home in Greece with their welcoming service, truly delicious Greek cookies/desserts and other great delicacies!! Well worth visiting for a Greek coffee or breakfast, lunch or even dinner !!!

There are plenty of classics but also some great Greek inspired desserts here. I have tried a number but always come back to the noisette or the amendoa. I once bought a selection of their smaller confections in lieu of a full cake and have never made my mother happier! Lovely little place to sit in the back as well... More

Probably, I should not write this review..I have been in this place more than 100 times.. to grab a cappuccino or a cup of tea, a bag of chocolate or bag of cookies or thiramisu cake - oh-h..do not do it, if you love chocolate...you will get hooked with this place forever..and, of course, we should eat grass, not cookies... Athens Bakery is a wonderful European style café, serving the most delish, yummy and European deserts, cakes and pastries. The atmosphere is friendly, the food very good but a little on the high side. This is a god place to stop in for a little snack while traveling around Brookline. Don't expect low prices, because this is not a cheap... More

If you want to avoid the generic Starbucks experience but would like to sit down for a good coffee and some pastries with a minimum of fuss and pleasant service then Athans is for you. Also excellent - if expensive- for delicious almond biscuits to take away as gifts.

I always come to Athans to pick up some decadent pastries. In the few times that I have sat in the back room, the tables are covered in sticky syrup and generally not cleaned well. I usually come here, pick-up, and go.
