We ate lunch at Soapy's on a very cold afternoon. It was not crowded. Our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable and funny. We appreciated his suggestions on foods and drinks. In particular their special crab cake burger was excellent!

We visited this typical Alaskan restaurant on a grey evening. Our waiter instantly brightened our mood. Rushed off his feet and alone he coped with his very own style and humour. Food was delicious - crab cakes of course ! Well worth a visit .

From the time we entered the restaurant which we had waited for them to open we were entertained by our very efficient waiter. The food was average but worth the visit to see the decor.

The best thing about Soapy's is the server. He is hilarious, very personable, and entertaining. He knows the regulars and they love him. The food was not great. I had a hamburger and it was rubbery, not hand-pattied for sure. Husband had the famous crab burger. Also not very good.

This restaurant is downtown and behind the Springhill Suites Hotel.....(2nd Street, I think). I was intrigued by the menu that features the "crab burger" and decided that is what I would order. So glad I did as it was delicious. This was not a typical "crab cake".....this was the real thing....fresh and delicious. The service was friendly and quick and... More

The food was good, and the prices were fair. The best part was the commentary by the owner, as he told you some local history.

The service was ok, but the food was horrible. If you are interested in Alaskan decor and pictures - the real history of Alaska is all over the walls. The waiter was attentive but the food was not that good. Like most of Alaska - pricey, but in this case, just average food. We were very disappointed. I had a... More

I am a people watcher and this place did not disappoint. Reading some of the other reviews, it is obvious that the personalities at Soapy Smith's aren't for everyone. However, if you need to grab lunch and want some interesting background noise, check this place out. The food, like everywhere in Alaska, is way over priced but at least here... More

While the exterior looks a bit tired and the interior isn’t brand new there is a feeling of authenticity about Soapy Smith’s. Run by the son of Alaska's last territorial governor, the walls of the restaurant are adorned with historical memorabilia. It was apparent that many locals were amongst the diners during our visit. This would appear to indicate a... More

We were on an inland/cruise vaca with Holland American, and were recommended to a restaurant for dinner. The prices were outrageous, so we decided to explore. We were greeted with a typical NY greeting of, "Wha da ya want here?" Being from NY, I immediately got the idea. We were entertained, served, and giving it back all during our dinner.... More
