Ate their a few years ago, and it was a fantastic meal. Was in neighborhood and wanted to go back but was severely disappointed. Initially told that they were out of corned beef. We were offered a sample of the brisket, which was lean and tasted good. When we received the brisket sandwich, it was more than 70% fat. The... More

We spent the holidays visiting New York, and wanted to try some real pastrami for breakfast in Brooklyn during our stay. Sadly, the Smoked Meat Hash was served charred and burnt - the likely result of reheated leftovers - and an unsavoury disappointment. My brother ordered a smoked meat (pastrami) sandwich which was very tasty, but also VERY fatty. On... More

We read about Mile End's Chinese Meal on Christmas Day in the NY Times and are VERY glad we got reservations! Joel was gracious in helping us secure 2 spots for us at 2pm, which ended-up being a perfect time to eat for us -- meant we could sleep-in and have a leisurely morning before heading from Manhattan to Brooklyn... This is a small place and it is usually crowded for lunch and dinner so be prepared to wait during busy times. If you have never tried a Québec style poutine married with Montreal style smoked meat [ think Canadian pastrami, if such a meat exists ], then hustle over to Mile End and give it a try. However, if... More

When the washroom has photos of the Montreal Canadiens hockey team, you know that the deli really has Montreal as an aspiration. Service was very friendly. I had the classic Reuben which was a total delight. Eating at the counter made it feel even more special. Can't wait to return.

They say that it is a "Montreal Style" deli. While it is not quite that (I mean does Montreal have good New York pizza?)it still is good and I would have given them a 5 had it not taken longer than expected for the waitress to come and ask for our order. In all fairness to her, she was the... More

This place feels like it should be in Portland, Oregon or Portland, Maine and I mean that as a compliment. It is small, personal, unhurried joint. The food is made with care. Like a miniature 2nd Avenue Delicatessen Mile End leans heavily into Jewish comfort food. Great spot for breakfast, brunch and lunch. Probably good for dinner too. Place is... More

Eat in or take-out. Great anytime they are open, but special for brunch. The specials are always great: usually a three-egg something (mine was sunchoke puree with brussel sprout hash) or a special french toast of some sort. Montreal bagels are hand rolled and boiled before baking to give a toasty outside and a chewy inside. Montreal style smoked meats... More

Happened to come across Mile End while walking from our hotel and decided to have "fourth meal". Our server (manager?) was super nice and friendly, told us to seat ourselves and proceeded to make helpful suggestions. The chopped liver and Hoyt dog were both excellent. Can't say I've ever had a better all beef dog/toppings. The matzo balls in the... More
