We ventured out from AmanKila for lunch once day. Good food. Good service. Lovely views, especially from the toilet! A bit too touristy though. Too many selfies being taken but then at these prices it'll hardly be locals eating there (said in the nicest way)

I recently went to Karangasem with some friends and we did the trek and cooking class. Both were exceptional. First, the trek. We arrived at the starting point and headed out through the local area, passing friendly villagers along the way. Penny was with us and was happy to point out medicinal plants and local delicacies like baby fern tips... More

Bali Asli is a magnificant setting overlooking verdant ricefields and Balis holy mountain, gunung agung. the food is authentically Balinese cooked by an Australian fully trained chef - penny Williams who cut her teeth cooking at the Savoy in London before moving to bali where she fell in love with all things balinese! the food is less spiced than it... About a 2 hour drive from Seminyak, we began our day at 8 am . We were accompanied by Penny, the owner and Executive Chef to local markets. Penny gave much detail about various foods in Bali and we purchased many of the ingredients for our cooking lesson. Penny is passionate about food and embraces true Balinese cuisine and culture.... Tried fresh juice and balinese food. Taste good, not strong taste. Smoking available at the deck. Cute black dog welcomes you. Google map will navigate you precisely to the restaurant. But hard to reach here because the road is too narrow. You had better coming here with driver and tour guide. Over 2 hours drive from Kuta area. One of... More

We love coming to Bali Asli whenever we are on Bali, such a great spot, lovely food and service. A credit to Penny to train and motivate her team and achieve/maintain high standards. Worth a visit and a great stopover when touring in the area.

Description
Bali Asli is located in Gelumpang village, near the town of Amlapura, the capital of Karangasem regency, in the North East of Bali. About 2 hours drive from the airport, and 30 minutes from Candidasa village, and 30 minutes from Amed village. Nestled in the foot hills of Mount Agung, Bali's most sacred mountain, surrounded by rice fields, there is not a building to be seen. Bali Asli promotes Balinese cuisine and culture without exploiting it or it's people. We embrace our community, supporting those who fish, farm and forage in the near by fields, ocean and jungle. Our menu offers authentic Balinese food using a traditional Balinese style kitchen, cooking on wood-fired, mud brick stoves, allowing the real flavours of Bali to shine. Most of our ingredients are either grown in our garden, in our neighbour's garden or purchased from the local market The cooking school runs unique classes themed on "a day in the life of..." every class includes an adventure into local areas off the beaten track. Weather it is learning how to plant rice or plough with a cow, fishing in a jukung canoe and cooking on an open fire or making cocktails from cashew nut wine, our students always leave with fond memories and new skills to experiment with when they get home.
