When you go to a relatively expensive restaurant you expect tasty food. We had truffle and mushroom pasta and shrimp pesto pasta. The truffle pasta was almost completely tasteless but literally bathing in oil. The shrimp pasta had excessive amounts of pesto and oil that was soaked up by the pasta creating an overcooked taste. Needless to say we did... More

Everything about The Italian Barrel was better than expected! Our party of 5 was seated in the front corner of the restaurant near two windows with views of street and all of the bustling activities of the quiet side of the French Quarter. Located just beyond the French Market, this restaurant occupies an old home and has an exquisite menu.... More

We had the opportunity to dine here and will certainly return whenever in NOLA. Our meals were off the charts and the lemon gelato desert was fabulous. Give this place a try.

This was our second time here and it did not disappoint. We got the pumpkin ravioli and the penne vodka, both were amazing. One of the best restaurants in NOLA for sure!

I have eaten at this restaurant several times before but was always warm enough to eat outside on the patio. This is my first time here since the expanded the inside and have some much more seating. I was there this past weekend and found a couple of seats at the bar. The bartender that waited on us was very... More

Been there numerous times over the years and personally feel the restaurant was better prior to the expansion. The prices have increased to the point they are not reflective of the quality and the service has declined. We received sub par service last night, granted it was Mardi Gras. The person doing the seating was frazzled and almost as unorganized... More

My wife and I travel a great deal, we eat in some of the finest restaurants in numerous location. We also love to eat in local neighborhood eateries. We ordered (along with another couple) and waited for 55 minutes for it come out of the kitchen. There was 3 other tables filled in the place. Once we began to eat... More

Our family of four had a very nice dinner at the Italian Barrel, but it had a few quirky twists that created what we decided to call "New Orleans Italian." They had a delicious sounding scampi on the menu, but it came with a pesto sauce - and lots of it! The pasta and fresh shrimp did not need the... More

A great place to eat. Make sure you make reservations because it is small. There homemade pasta is out of this world. Pork Chop was cook perfectly. Service was outstanding. On the way to our table one of our meals was dropped. The manager quickly came over and apologized. Four minutes later the meal was served. They even through in... More

This was our second dinner in New Orleans and again the food was excellent. Service was also very friendly. Only the prize was a big shock for "just" and Italian restaurant. We had to pay over 200 dollars for just a basic dinner.

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
