If you are strict vegetarian or vegan, there are not a lot of options but the salad they did have - poached pear was delicious. The poach pears were great when paired with goat cheese, candied nuts and spinach. I also had the garlic and herb fries, which were also delicious. A lot of people raved about the truffle mac... We found this place after trying for brunch at Ruby Slipper and Mothers, both of which had long lines. I'm so glad we ended up here. Great beer list, awesome spicy Bloody Mary. We tried the deviled eggs with caviar, which were great. One of the best shrimp and grits I've ever had - spicy, saucy head-on shrimp, with the... More

You would never know Capdeville was in the middle of busy downtown New Orleans, no sign or large marker, just a sandwich board on the street. The inside is dark with a rock and roll theme and it reminds me of a cross between a 1900s red light district and 60s London. It sounds weird but it works. The mac... More

Very nice little place, with a small bar and a few tables in an out of the way location. The waitresses are friendly and helpful. The food I had (ribeye steak, asparagas) was VERY good. A bit noisy, so don't expect to have relaxing and intimate conversations. Will definite return when in the Big Easy.

We had a very good time and the food was quite tasty, especially the gourmet burger. We also had fish and chips along with the Cuban sandwich. The Cuban was a bit different as it was smoked pork, but still good. Cheesecake for dessert came from the bakery around the corner which was a nice touch, very rich. Overall the... More

Cute place with nice waiter but SO loud and food was incredibly salty. Like so so salty! Juke box repairman came in the middle of a busy Friday night and went to work right in the middle of everything.....so odd.

This place is not the typical French Quarter restaurant. It is low key, and thoughtfully executed. The menu is small, but unique. The flavors are perfect, and perfectly prepared. Be sure to try the truffle mac-n-cheese. And if they do the blue crab soup as a soup of the day...get it!!

We went at 5PM on a Monday, so it was understandably quiet. The service was top notch. A few glitches with the food, our duck and peach wontons seemed to only have cream cheese filling and our salad came undressed. Still a 5 star review, the salad dressing came promptly and the wontons were still good and cheap. They had... More

This place is hard to find, because it's down a quiet street, but I sure am glad I took the few extra minutes to track this place down. It's a perfect small bar that is quiet enough to relieve your ears and senses from overwhelming Bourbon Street. The 50/50 burger was cooked exactly as I wanted it, and the drinks... More

Came here for brunch, I think they had just opened recently when we came. We were the only group in the restaurant on a Saturday morning but I'm sure the word has gotten out by now. This place is really good. It is a solid brunch and they have bottomless mimosas (which no brunch is complete without). Also, truffle mac... More

Great bar and restaurant near Poydras that offers late night cuisine and a really laid back atmosphere. Upscale bar food like truffled mac n cheese, poutine fries, gourmet burgers, steak frites, and fried red beans and rice. Also has a whiskey bar, which is really unique.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.
