Unremarkable from the outside, but fun surprises within! First pick your bottle/glass of wine or beer in the wine store. Also a couple cheeses or a meat and they will bring out a lovely cheese plate with olives, pecans, jellies, pickles. Head outside and get there around 6 or 6:30 to get a table. Music starts at 7. Order your from... More

If you come at night you won't see the ugly oil tankers next door but we were here for lunch, which was pretty sedate. Great cheese plates where you chose your own cheeses and they add the sides, such as wonderful fruity chutney. We also loved the brussel sprout salad and a chicken confit. Great wine selection.. Definitely out of... More

We're in New Orleans celebrating my husband's 50th birthday and we spent a great afternoon here. We spent our time in the upstairs cocktail bar with the delightful Madeline. The strawberry balsamic cocktail was delicious. We didn't eat, but the lunch sandwich special with shrimp really looked good as did the steak and potato dish. Presented very well. The vibe... More

One warm afternoon recently we went with friends to this legendary spot outside of New Orleans. I never would've found it if I hadn't been with someone who knew where they were going. That being said, what an amazing treat! You walk into a little market where there are sorted wines and cheeses, pick out a bottle or two and... More

Visit here every time we go to New Orleans which is 2-4 times a year. Select a bottle of wine and put together a selection of meats, cheeses, and spreads and they deliver the most divine charcuterie tray you will ever have to your table. Live jazz music playing in a courtyard setting...sit back and enjoy for hours!

The wine is pretty expensive, but that could be because it's the same price at the bar upstairs and they'll chill it and open it for your enjoyment in the awesome courtyard. Great duo with a violinist who I thought was a recording of Stephan Grappelli! A must stop deep in the Bywater!

As a first time visitor hosted by a local this was a place i would have never found nor visited on my own but it is totally worth the visit. It is unique in that you walk into the wine and packaged food area and you pick out your wine, pay for it and then take your food or order... More

Ok, so first impressions matter and the bearded cool guy on the front door made a bad one, real bad. I arrived on foot after walking for an hour and a half, 6km (my choice). There were ten people in the line and I begged the doorman to be allowed in to the bathroom, promising to return to the line... More

This spot embodies the spirit of the Bywater district. The outdoor seating area was charming & comfortable. They had a great wine selection, though you have to order inside & carry it out to the patio. Make sure you ask for help selecting a bottle; the staff was extremely knowledgeable & helpful. There is an outdoor bar where you can... More

We loved our time at Bacchanal. Their back patio totally reminds me of a friendly barbecue. We sat in the front with the music, grabbing appetizers and sharing a bottle. And our crew included a vegetarian, pescatarian, vegan, and meat eater! My buddy and I went upstairs and got after their hidden craft cocktail menu which was fantastic.

Staying in Faubourg Marigny & Bywater

Neighbourhood Profile
Faubourg Marigny & Bywater
Nestled between the French Quarter and the Ninth Ward, the Faubourg Marigny & Bywater environs are largely residential. Of course, folks around here love to go out and have a good time as much as they do anywhere in NOLA. And if out-of-towners want to join in the festivities, well then so much the better! Home to some of the most revered live music venues in New Orleans, an eclectic gaggle of gourmand dining destinations, and a come-as-you-are vibe that’s as infectious as it is alluring, this is real deal New Orleans oozing with southern hospitality and the promise of a most epic night out. For endless opportunities to boogie, to admire row upon row of lovingly restored homes, and to escape the fray of the more touristic parts of town (but still live it up in grand style) head to Faubourg Marigny & Bywater.
