I'm a sushi lover and wanted to try a good sushi in New Orleans, this place is not your traditional Japanese restaurant, the atmosphere is very inviting and pleasant, the staff is knowledgeable of the menu and very attentive, the waiter did a good job recommending us some of the items in the menu, we try little bit of everything... We have enjoyed sushi from Japan to the west coast and to Florida but we're less than disappointed in the menu and the food. But the service put us over! I do not RECOMMEND.

I have eaten at Chiba a total of 3 times all within the last month. The Spanish inspired rolls and selection of fine saki will have you spending your entire eve wing there. The staff is always very nice and accommodating. Make sure to try their specials and as always their seafood is very fresh!

We are still on in our search for a replacement for the now defunct Ninja (new owners, horrible). We dropped by Chiba for a try. A decent Manhattan and a Mojito opened the meal. Rainbow, Crispy Spiced Salmon, Strawberry Satsuma, and California rolls returned an excellent repast, no leftovers today! The hot and sour soup was too spicy to eat... More

Dined at Chiba recently as a first timer, but knew of the spot for years as it's in the neighborhood. It was close to empty on a Friday night. Granted, it's August in New Orleans and this is (way) Uptown, but expected a little more atmosphere. Service was very good, nice to see the owner around and checking on things.... More

Great place with amazing service and Keith the owner is a fantastic guy that goes above and beyond to ensure you have a great experience in his restaurant/bar. Chiba is also a great place to stop for a drink prior to heading into the Maple Leaf for a live gig. Thanks Keith for taking care of us girls.

Looking at restaurants in New Orleans it is so extremely difficult to decide because there are so many possibilities, and the reviews are rated relatively close. We chose the Chiba, because the evening before we went too another restaurant right close to it, and we liked the design of the place. Service was fast, good, and attentive. Food was absolutely... Unfortunately we chose this restaurant for Christmas Eve dining. We had a 6pm reservation and got there a little before. The place was PACKED. Probably would have moved on, but the Eve didn't leave much of a choice for another place. It was very noisy with chatter inside which I think would be common any day. We chose to sit... More

I got pretty toasted on my grapefruit drink they had on special. The sushi was good. They were able to seat us right away and the waitress was like an encyclopedia! She knew her stuff when it came to the menu. Our group had fun, but we were trying to get into Jacques Imo's down the street and it wasn't... More

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighbourhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
