It was recommended by a friend, you have to really plan to get to this restaurant. They open at 5-10PM daily. The food was extra ordinary, the ambiance was awesome. The service it's super!!! The billboard says Jackques-Imo's Cafe not famous since 1996, warm beer, lousy food, poor service..... it's all the opposites! We will recommend to our family and... More

Although it was kinda pricey, the rebelliously cheap setting and food shocked us all. The food was AMAZING. Aligator cheesecake was a twist (as we're all of their dishes) but so amazing we couldn't get enough!!!!

First off, we were with a large party. The service was excellent and fast. The entrees were delicious but the side dishes were scant and subpar taste. I had the red beans and rice and the corn. Everyone in my party said their sides were cold. The RB&R tasted like Uncle Ben's Instant Rice and a can of Blue Runner... More

I almost don't want to tell people how good this was, because it's crowded enough already! We met some locals here for dinner on a Tuesday night, and they said we had to go no later than 6:30. We squeaked in without a wait, table for five. Wow! Best meal of all the great meals we had in the city.... More

Jacques-Imo's was recommended to me over 10 years ago by a local NOLA business associate. His words were, "Its the true heart of New Oleans". I'm not an expert on NOLA, but I have to say the complete experience of this restaurant is fantastic! As the other posts have mentioned, the Shrimp & Alligator Sausage Cheesecake & the Fried Chicken... More

In the garden district, so a little bit of a trip away from the French Quarter. Fun to ride the streetcar there but a lengthy ride with all of the stops. Went on a weeknight, nothing else going on around the street, it was quiet although there are other restaurant/bars nearby. You enter the restaurant which is kind of dark... More

Cool place but didn't dig the garlic in the fried chicken and corn muffins. The fried green tomatoes were good. I'd definitely recommend it for the experience.

A sort of out-of-the way gem that's a must for every visit. The server boasted of "real New Orleans cuisine" and the menu backed him up. Great variety of dishes, and if our selections are a guide, they're all delicious. This is a great -- one reviewer has called it quirky -- restaurant that we're guessing is a favorite of... More

A great night that lived up to all the reviews of others. Service very good. Everyone one in our group loved their dinners. Fried chicken, steak, duck and soft crab special were our choices and all of us felt we would definitely return the next time we come to town.

Thank Jane McNeish H

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighbourhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
