Our dinner got off to a bit of a rough start here, as we were seated in the back, right near the swinging open door that leads to the kitchen. It was quite noisy, and the workers in the kitchen were clearly visibly doing dishes, etc. At some point, I decided I was not paying upwards of $50 per entree... More

Restaurant August is always on our agenda for a trip to New Orleans and every time, without fail, it not only matches but exceeds the previous visit. This is no easy feat, as everyone knows, and the service is always spot on, the food inventive yet traditional, and the culinary execution top of the charts.

Restaurant August was a highlight of our most recent NOLA visit. The elegantly apppointed dining rooms in the former tobacco warehouse, is perfect New Orleans . The waitstaff is totally professional , explaining every dish in detail. Their guidance in wine pairing was right on the mark. We started with a split app of potato gnocchi with blue crab, black... My husband says this is the best meal he has ever had! I agree it was great. The service and food were wonderful. The fried oysters were cooked with a potato trading and fried perfectly, crispy outside, juicy inside. I had sea bass and my husband had a fish dish named triple tail. The only issue I had was that... More

Not really sure if John Besh has anything to do with his signature restaurant, but if he isn't l recommend he continues to stay away. This place is as legit as any 5 star restaurant there is in this country. This place got it all working. From the cocktails to the wine to the cuisine to the service it does... More

I have been to NO many times over a 35 years span , have tried all the fine and famous restaurants there . 20/25 years ago Emeril changed the food scene there , love their tasting menu then ( not as exciting now ). August is the flagship under Besh ( he ran a few places ) I have been... More

August is everything they say. Absolutely spectacular food, presentation, wine list, service, ambiance...... A top 10 restaurant for the entire country. Not just Nola! Prices were very reasonable for a restaurant of this quality and stature. If in Nola this is a must

From the minute you step into August, you know that you are in for a treat. Course after course, it never disappoints. The only restaurant we went to twice in one stay. And would again!

Dined at Restaurant August this week. Not quite as good as on past occasions in terms of food, service and atmosphere. In fact service was rather slow. Maybe just an off night but disappointing since I was entertaining some great people that night. We dined on different seafood and fish dishes, salads and desert.

We went for my husbands birthday and everything was fantastic! He ordered the wine pairing menu and I ordered a la carte. For a luxurious meal, August is not to be missed. It's expensive, but it's worth it!

The cuisine at August is contemporary French with a focus on local ingredients, inspired by Chef John Besh's classical training here and in Europe, and by the depth of his own Southern Louisiana roots. August is located in an historic 19th century French-Creole building in New Orleans' Central Business District. August was a semifinalist for the 2012 and 2013 James Beard Awards Outstanding Restaurant, and has been selected by Gayot as a top 40 Restaurant in the United States. The Times Picayune has named it as one of their top 10 Restaurants the last two years in a row.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.
