Jamila's serves Tunisian food, which is excellent. This is owned by a family. The wife cooks. The husband works the dining room and is very charming and gracious. It is a small restaurant in Uptown New Orleans and is a fun, and delicious experience.

A great change from traditional New Orleans food. We come to NOLA often and wanted to try something different. Jamila's Cafe came up in a search so we decided to give it a try. The hosts, food and atmosphere were above expectations. Would recommend giving it a try. We will be back next visit.

Cozy, romantic, fine dining, impeccable service! Dinner Tu-Sun, 5-10 PM….My family enjoys the Crawfish, Zucchini, & Spinach Bisque, or Escargot as appetizers. Also great is Salad Tunisienne with apples Bell pepper, onions, cucumbers, tomatoes, tuna fish, olives with Vinaigrette. Fresh Seafood-Meat-Poultry are featured, my favorite item is Jamila’s Couscous A l’agneau (lamb and fresh vegetales au jus); My husband likes... More

A welcoming restaurant in the backstreets which we wouldn't have discovered unless recommended by our B&B hosts. Cosy and rustic decor. Very friendly staff. A few vegetarian options though the cuisine didn't lend itself so much to it. I had the vegetarian pasta while my husband had the lamb tagine. Both were very tasty. Jamila is the wife and chef.... If you are in the mood for North African food, don't miss the exquisite offerings prepared by the darling Jamilla, and served by her hospitable husband Montcef. This charming restaurant is in the University area off Maple, and feels like a giant bear hug of a place...Montcef will have you swearing you are kin in no time! Our party had... More

Authentic ethnic cuisine cooked and served with love by a husband & wife team in an intimate, relaxed dining room. What a treat. The stuffed and fried phyllo appetizer was amazing. My sister thoroughly enjoyed the fish, which had an unusually savory preparation that used cloves. My lamb tajine was heavenly, and my 3 year old daughter lapped everything off... More

Anyone looking for some good Tunisian/Moroccan/Algerian food in NOLA should try this place. The owners are very friendly people and are Tunisians (I believe. Forgive me if this information wrong) you feel very welcome in this place and if it's not the food you're coming back for, it's the North African hospitality. Great place!

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighbourhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
