in a city full of amazing places to eat, this really wasn't one that stood out. more of a tourist trap than anything else the brunch items were small and unremarkable. Location is good for people watching on Jacksons Square but I wouldnt return.

We were traveling in NOLA for a day waiting for our cruise when we passed by this place. The French Quarter was loaded with people everywhere but we managed to find seating for our party of seven here, and quickly. I ordered the fried alligator, which was delicious, and a grilled chicken sandwich, also delicious. The bread pudding is wonderful... More

One of my friends I was with said that it was a great restaurant with a nice view so we went there. The food was awful and she agreed, she said she got the same meal 6 months ago and it wasn't the same. Last time she had it, she said it was delicious and now she wouldnt recommend it... More

My wife and I had a dinner in Cafe Pontalba on 1st half of Nov 2016. I had blackened alligator bites and my wife had the jambalaya. I'm not a squeamish guy but the bites of my dish were presented in a plate without any kind of care, even minimal, with swipings everywhere which suggest a lack of general attention.... More

After a long day of traveling and walking the French quarter we stopped in for an early dinner. We were told to sit anywhere we wanted and after picking a seat, it took quite a while for anyone to come to the table. I ordered a fish po-boy which was extremely plain, dry, and way too "fishy" tasting. The other... More

You have to be pretty lousy to get one star from me. Look at my profile. One star is deserved. Lousy service included a disappearing waiter. Poor Bloody Mary. Gumbo was average and over salted. Penne a la vodka was embarrassing to be served to a customer. So many choices in this city. Step up your game.

After walking through part of the French Quarter, listening to the fabulous street musicians, and experiencing the great history of this part of New Orleans, we decided to stop for a bite and a beer. We chose wisely it turns out. Café Pontalba served wonderful food in keeping with local traditions. I had a 3 egg Gumbo Omelette with grits... More

We were on a lengthy walking tour of the French quarter and Jackson Square area and desperately neede a beer and something to eat. Café Pontalba provided a perfect spot and also an opportunity to try the Po-boy sandwiches famous in New Orleans. We had the traditional version with heaps of sliced beef and gravy and it was a meal... More

Stopped in for lunch with a group of friends. As others joined us our waitress helped make room for them and quickly brought them up to speed. Food was very good as we tried a number of different items. Outside we could see the street performers plying their craft.

We would up here because the line was so long at Cafe Du Monde. I found it to be a very pleasant experience despite some of the negative reviews I saw later. Out server told us they had the best Bloody Mary in the city so we had to order a round. It was not the best I have ever... More

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
