Gene's was right on the corner by where we stayed at Blue60 Guest House. It was perfect for a late night snack on the way back from the quarter or breakfast. Open 24 hours! And we met Gene at the local bar and he is really cool. You must eat here!

The roast beef sandwich was too oily and greasy. Wasn't able to eat half of it. And this is coming from a guy who can demolish a Philly cheesesteak with ease.

I asked the lady behind the counter if I should get the shrimp or catfish. She said shrimp with hot sauce and that is what I did. I took it to go as there is not much to look at in there or outside. It was still warm and delicious when I finally got around to eating it an hour... More

This is a nice late night eatery and once again we ordered the Cheeseburger Subs and fries. Both were great, plenty of meat with fresh tomatoes and lettuce and the fries are some of the best around. You also get a drink for the $10....good food at a good value. Nice friendly service as well. You will enjoy....highly recommended.

Every time I come to New Orleans I stop by Gene's. I usually just get their awesome daiquiris but this was the first time I purchased food and boy am I glad I did! I ordered a roast beef sandwich and my mom ordered a hot sausage poboy with cheese. Both were beyond tasty and full of flavor.

Okay so I have had a Po'Boy before. I'm not from the ice-ages after all. But when you get a Po'Boy from Gene's it's like stepping into a perfect, iconic moment in the culture of New Orleans. No-frills wouldn't even start to describe Gene's. There are two tables so pretty much it's a take out joint. And every person who... More

Get the PoBoy, can't go wrong. Their daily specials were also pretty good! Very friendly woman working there, I'd recommend if you're in the area.

Gene's makes the best poorboy sandwiches. I ordered the hot sausage Po boy with cheese and pickles and it took me back to childhood. Their bread is light and crispy.
