There are a lot of places in NOLA to grab local fare, from truck stop cabins to high end deconstructed Cajun food. Felix's is somewhere in the middle, a nice little diner situated at Bourbon and Iberville where you can get in, get a taste of the local food, have great service, and at a reasonable cost. I would put... More

We came across Felix's restaurant on our way back to our hotel. We were tired and hungry so we figured it would work. It worked really well! The food was great and the service was friendly.

He said "when you see that line at Acme Oyster, just go across the street where the locals go". This was a good call. I walked right in, seated at the bar right away and had a cold beer in my hand within seconds. Gumbo to start, then the famous chargrilled oysters. Totally enjoyed this place. Would go back in... We tried this restaurant and Acme restaurant across the street to compare the oysters. Both are excellent just a little different. Both are crowded and noisy. Both have full bars. We would return but prefer Acme larger menu choices if we wanted something other than oysters.

Best oysters! And my husband doesn't eat fish... the turkey club was fantastic! My parents have been coming to this place for 50 years... cannot beat this place for the best oysters! Not a fancy atmosphere... but friendly service.

We liked Felix's so much we went twice on our visit to New Orleans. The prices are very reasonable and the lines were not too long We tried the roasted oysters one night.... wow! They flame them on the grill and melt butter and herbs over them and then serve them with a soft loaf of French bread. We also... More

The grilled oysters are better than you could ever imagine. $20 dollars a dozen. Not to be missed. We ate here twice on our trip. Second time we sat at the counter. A lot of fun. The staff has a great sense of humor and are really great people. While we were there a staff member of ACME oysters came... More

there is a reason the line is shorter! their menu has the same offerings.. but they could use some training in the service dept. We were seated in the back room near the grill.. and saw plates of grilled oysters sitting on the counter until they were lukewarm.. as were the ones we were served. not good!

Sit at the bar if you can, the staff is friendly and fun. The raw bar is great, you can watch them shuck oysters and they make their own special cocktail sauce. The baked oysters were even awesome and they are huge! All the food there is excellent, best Etouffee!

I never even dreamed I would one day be eating an alligator. But, when in New Orleans, you have to try it. Felix has the best gator nuggets.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.
