Good Air conditioning on a hot day, with good red beans and rice and shrimp po-boys, great location just a block off Jackson Square.

Our original plan was to have a bite somewhere else across the street. However, once we arrived, the destination turned out to be a bank. What?? Instead, across the street was the open-air dining in the bar of the Chartres House. We checked the menu, and BAM! There was something we’d been talking about earlier in the day.. a Portabella... A great place in the French Quarter; not on Bourbon Street. Very good food, and good portions (although I think it might have taken me a week to eat one of their po'boys. Good place to get an authentic meal. Two things: the place may not look as "nice" in the night, and the bathrooms, well, let's just say a... More

Our dinner was top notch: crawfish stuffed fish with steamed veggies and blackened chicken Alfredo. The fish was cooked perfectly and everything was fresh and delicious.

Visited NO in May. First time eating at this restaurant. The Gumbo Shop was closed, but a waiter recommended this place for a later dinner. My GF and I were seated on the balcony which was very nice. The Wait Staff was very attentive, but the food left a lot to be desired. One of my favorite dishes is Crawfish... More

We went here for dinner before a show at the House of Blues. We were impressed by the food. Would have given it 5 stars if not for the service. The waitress disappeared for large chunks of time. The crystal wings, gumbo and po-boys are very good.

My friends had never been to New Orleans before so we sought out a place with a diverse selection of local foods. My one friend LOVED her sampler of jumbalaya, crawfish etoufee, and red beans n rice. Others enjoyed their meals too. This is my fifth time here so I've tried the famous foods. I tried the BBQ shrimp as... More

Stopped in with friends on the last day of a convention. Some of the seating areas are right on the street - too much noise and exhaust for me. Got a table away from all that which also lowered the noise level. Started with crawfish bread for the table - could have polished off several orders of that easily. Can... More

Service was very slow even thou they were not busy. They also had bugs on the walls. Yes bugs, a roach climbed up the walk and one was in the ceiling. Server only asked once if we needed anything. Never came back to check on us. I had to stop him just to get the check.

Have eaten here several times and have never had a bad meal. Like sitting just inside where you can watch the people go by. You won't be hungry after the meal but get a piece of Chocolate Cake to go. You won't be disappointed

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
