Great place great breakfast had great live music going on. I got one of the best omelettes I think I've ever had there. Can't wait to go back!

It was nice to dine outside and we only waited 20 minutes for a table given it was Mardi Gras weekend. The food was good and the drinks good but it took 1 hour to get our food. The waiter was very nice. They have live music on the weekend. Nice place.

I have reviewed Live Oak Cafe before, but since then they have stepped up their game. An effort to visit Ruby Slipper (any one of 4) fell short, 45 minute waits for all. Stopped by Live Oak Cafe (LOC). No wait, great seats, live music. A Bloody Mary was perfect, and the bottomless coffee (she) rich. Sadly, tea drinkers (me)... More

Thanks for the lovely review! As a tea drinker - what would you like to see offered in the future? Right now we only carry English Breakfast, Jasmine or Blue Eyes as sell very little tea compared to coffee. We appreciate your input and hope you come back soon! -Clare Leavy (chef/co-owner Live Oak Cafe) More

We went here for breakfast at the suggestion of my friend's son who is a chef. We were there shortly after opening and the only customers. Real interesting décor. The menu was small with a lot of sandwiches and grit dishes. I can't remember the cute name of the dish I ordered, but it was really good. I am not... More

Visiting NOLA my quest was to have great shrimp and grits, at numerous places that didn't offer it, I was in the area and checked out local places and saw they had what I was looking for! Not to disappoint came for a late breakfast and... More

Took the trolley from Canal getting off at Oak Street and saw the Live Oak. Some wonderful music inside so we went in and had some great drinks and snacks. Everyone was so friendly and made us feel at home in this local spot. Can recommend the special coffee with liquor and ice cubes made from coffee. Stayed for quite... More

This is a quaint place to have a wonderful breakfast/brunch experience. We had the shrimp and grits. Two of us split it, and I went home with leftovers. It had plump shrimp with a tangy sauce. It was rich, but not too spicy. A friend had the dish called "Hangover". She said that is was VERY good. The coffee was... More

From start to finish this was one great experience. Food great, staff great, music great. Coffee was good if bit light. Waitress Kat was quick & friendly. Shrimp and grits excellent. Well spiced, well made and the grits were creamy and slightly tangy. Finished with creme fraiche or yogurt?

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighbourhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
