We are a neighborhood restaurant & oyster bar located in the heart of Seward, Alaska. The Cookery showcases the fisherman, the rancher and the farmer, the brewmaster and the winemaker, and of course, the magnificent oyster! Whether served ice cold on the half shell, or chargrilled and sizzling in garlic butter, The Cookery's oysters are the best you’ll ever have. Each day oyster farmers harvest, pack, and ship us the best oysters available. Our fresh, hand-shucked, locally farmed raised oysters are delivered daily within hours of harvesting. And it’s not just the oysters; we’re serving Chef Kevin Lane's personally created dishes, all seasoned to perfection and served with a smile. We will feature

Not sure why TripAdvisor has a heading stating this restaurant is closed until April '22, we were there about 10 days ago... This is a definite must to eat at while in Seward, yet MAKE A RESERVATION. We arrived at 5pm and the line was...probably 50 people long to get in, and 100% of those w/ reservations had their name called, but those that didn't have reservations were not able to and they were all told that there was no room the rest of the evening. If you are lucky to eat here, make sure to try the oysters. So good. There is also a decent wine list to choose from as well.More

This restaurant is a must go place! I made reservations and was glad. Started immediately, served by a great staff! It’s very hip & artsy! The food was great! Much more creative than other restaurants! The service is first class!

Excellent meal/service. While a small restaurant, so book early, you won’t be disappointed. Highly recommend the fried chicken for your main

What a meal! From beginning to end this was one of the best meals I’ve enjoyed for very long time. My son and I sat at the bar shared few dishes. The chicken fried chicken was outstanding and had little “kick”. The shrimp poi poi...with fresh bread was also delicious. For dessert we loved the Dutch Baby with cream cheese ice cream. If you can’t get a reservation make sure you’re in line by 4:45 or you won’t get in. Worth the wait!More

Every bite was fantastic. We started with grilled zucchini humans which was light and flavorful. Then we had some of the best raw oysters ever! These were local and the smoothest oysters I can remember (considered ordering more). We then had wild mushroom toast that...was perfectly prepared. Our entree was fresh halibut with a flavorful crust and cooked perfectly. We had two desserts (could decide on just one) salted chocolate mouse and a pancake with an incredible blueberry compote. One of top meals in Alaska and would highly recommend. Reservation strongly suggested.More

In August 2021, finding a table for dinner in a restaurant in Seward is a competitive sport. We didn't have a reservation, so we got in line 30 minutes before the restaurant opened and managed to get seats at the bar. The menu is small,...but the bar tender was friendly and the food was amazing. Would definitely go back.More

The Cookery is located in a terrific spot in Seward---an easy walk from either end of town---and the food is so worth it! What made it special was that our server recognized us from a hike earlier in the day, which made a personal connection....To begin to explain the flavors, the freshness of the ingredients, and the attention from the staff is difficult. From appetizers to dessert, each course was full of flavor, displayed beautiful colors (of the ingredients), and was presented spectacularly. Clearly there is a reason this restaurant is so popular, and if you have the opportunity, make The Cookery your choice!More

Loved the food we did have but honestly the variety very very limited. Staff was also very very good!

Plan ahead because you will need reservations. Nice small restaurant with excellent service. On the night we dined we were served an amuse Bouche, which was excellent but unfortunately never explained as to the ingredients. We enjoyed fresh oysters, both the Halibut Cove and Jinhi...were super fresh. For entrees we ordered halibut and salmon, the salmon was over cooked and slightly dried out, the only drawback to our dinner at the Cookery.More
