My sons and I had breakfast here. We each had a different quiche, and they were all delicious, with the eggs cooked perfectly. We also had a selection of four pastries, which we shared: hazelnut twist, pan au chocolate, croissant, and an apple pastry. Everyone had a different kind of coffee or tea. I bought 2 biscotti (hazelnut and cranberry/pistachio),... More

A small cafe bakery in Ballard bakes the best plain croissant I have tasted and I am a croissant critic. The plain croissant is very light, crisp but not greasy. flaky. One isn't enough. A reason to visit The cafe but come early. It closes at 3 pm and on Mondays and Tuesdays.

It is true that I have not been to every great patisserie in Paris or the south of France, but I have been to many, and I have yet to find anything as good as this home town shop in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. Always has a line out the door, and is a must for anyone who visits... More

Oh my goodness. Cafe Besalu is a special place. And the pastries and croissants are the best in Seattle. The lattes are outstanding, too. As others have said, the line moves fast. Go. You won't be sorry. Having moved from Seattle, I am on the hunt for a croissant that even begins to approach the ones crafted at Besalu. Still... More

My wife lived in Ballard for a month during med school while she was doing an away rotation. Having never been to Seattle, she demanded that we go to Cafe Besalu immediately upon landing because I HAD to try it. They close at three on Sunday and we made it in the nick of time. I'm sure glad that we... More

My brother and sister in law live in Seattle and suggested I go here while they were at work. It's a small French coffee/pastry shop in Ballard, in walking distance to the Locks. I got the checkered shortbread and a pain au chocolate, with my latte. Really really good!!!! It was nice and quiet on a Wednesday morning too :)

If you are ever in Ballard, you have to try this place out. The croissants are to die for. The danishes are very good too. I wish I had more days to try them all. Be prepare to wait in line.

I've been to Paris and I don't see what the big deal is with this "patisserie". For starters, there are not enough tables and a serious traffic flow problem. Then, the clientele seem to think that it's not okay to sit down at a table before ordering so one stands in line only to have no place to sit. And... More

WOW. I am sooooo happy it is not in my neighborhood. I would be quite overweight since I have not self control. Warm, fresh, flavorful, perfectly balanced. Better than many Parisian patisseries, and in a totally different league than the oddly popular Pike Place Market Le Panier (never understood why Le Panier is popular). Go out of your way to...
