This restaurant is sent in caves , so makes for an interesting and cool/pleasant evening. It specializes in the food of the region. Our menus consisted of 4/5 small courses(like starters) which came with oval shaped bread - the idea being that you slit the bread roll in half and fill it with the different items (e.g. mushroom. pate, pork)... Arriving in Doué-la-fontaine on a wet and rainy Sunday afternoon, the concierge in our hotel recommended this restaurant. The surprise was the restaurant was built into some caves and after a very pleasant set meal had the opportunity to look around the caves. Well worth getting a meal here if you are near doué-la-fontaine.

Staying nearby we walked to this restaurant for an evening meal, with a little difficulty we found the way in and walked down the steep slope to the entrance. We were slightly early but were welcomed and invited to investigate part of the cave system. Do not miss this it is very worthwhile. Soon they led us to a table.... More

We came here as part of a group and the underground troglodyte setting is certainly stunning. The staff were welcoming and seated us quickly in one of the three or four caves. The food came out quickly and was good, not excellent but not bad. Plenty of wine aided digestion. A place to visit and admire the architecture but the... More

Staff were so welcoming and when we explained that we had 2 vegetarians and one who only ate fish in our group they specifically catered for them. It was an experience we will not forget

Les Cathédrales de la Saulaie is actually a "Troglodyte restaurant " Completely underground in a cathederal sized cave carved out hundreds of years ago to use the rock for building. Neither cold nor damp but very comfortable it provides an unusaul setting for lunch with a great ambience. The food is traditional local fare and just one menu. Stuffed mushrooms... More

This was a unique experience. The Trogladyte cave was amazing and where the restaurant is located is like a cathedral. The authentic French food was wonderful. The appear tiff of rose champagne was wonderful. A bit pricey for what it was but certainly a high light to our trip.

Like the near zoo, the site takes place in a former quarry. The restaurant rooms are huge with a very high ceiling (that's why they call it a cathedral). The atmosphere is rather wet, but the site really is not ordinary and pretty entertaining. Food is alright but nothing tremendous. Even if the place is huge, tables are packed in... More
