On a corner just behind the main street, this relaxed and atmospheric place has a superb menu to choose from, good services and the 2 nights we had dinner, all was very fine. Even the house wine was superb and not to expensive. Definitely a recommendation.

We had dinner here one evening and it was nice. Nothing special but perfectly ok. The choice of food was good and the service efficient.

Staying at the Franz Josef Scenic Hotel and this restaurant is just behind. Good service, nice atmosphere and excellent food. The lamb shank was cooked to perfection and my wife's fish and chips was well prepared. Nice whitefish and crispy batter. Try the blackberry and apple desert to finish. With beer and wine total bill was NZ $75. Very resonable.

We didn't have a reservation, but we were seated quickly, treated warmly and professionally. My hubby had ordered fish and chips but saw our neighbor's venison burger and they allowed him to change his order.. it was absolutely delicious. I was salad hungry and they graciously made me a nice big green salad with lots of fixings. The chicken and... More

WE ate dinner here on a cool evening. The lamb shank chosen was excellent and the chicken, Brie and almonds on mashed potato and vegetables likewise. Good homely fare, with friendly service and good house wine by the glass. The real story of the origin of. The name Alice May is given in the menu folder - fascinating!

Having stopped by earlier in the day for a drink we decided to have an early dinner there the same evening. It's a quaint long established restaurant with a good welcoming atmosphere. The staff made us very welcome and answered all the questions we had about the food on the menu. The food was very good and of a high... More

After reading earlier reviews about Alice May I was so looking forward to a good juicy lamb shank for dinner. What I got was a dry, overcooked shank with hardly any meat on the bone, definitely the worst ever. During the meal, we noticed another person sending their lamb shank back, perhaps I should have done the same. Fortunately my... More

We had a lovely light supper here. My husband had pasta while I had a bowl of chowder. We started with some yummy garlic bread. I was sorry we didn't save room for one of their beautiful desserts.

As warm and welcoming, as a traditional English Carriage House. The white walls and exposed rafters are adorned with riding tack, farm tools and other historic artifacts. While the wooden floors, wagon wheel bar stools and open fireplace add to the warmth.
