The sauce on the enchilada verdes is exquisite, and the carne asada in the tampiqueno platter is wonderful. The food is filling and excellent and authentic. The atmosphere is nice, pretty intimate, not overly noisy, and the service is good and friendly and professional.

Do I start with the rude waiter when we asked for another basket of chips he yelled at us. The cracked glass that water was served in. The fact that every table around us who came in after us was served and two had finished...More

Was looking for Mexican food restaurant that was Americanized, and spoke to the spirit of good and flavorful Mexican food (not covered with cheese and salsa). I got the chicken enchiladas with mole, and my husband got the special (stuffed poblano pepper). Both dishes were...More

LaFonda was very good and did not disappoint. We started with the Cucumber Jalapeno margaritas that I honestly was not too crazy about. The Oak-Grilled Fajitas were very good with the Allen Bros. beef that just about melted in your mouth. The Alambre Mixto was...More

My husband and I went a little out of our way to try this gem. The entire restaurant feels very intimate... Even out on their amazing patio. Seriously fell in love with their outdoor space - it's huge! Very good food as well, but the...More

Love this place. Small and cozy, with a wonderful outdoor patio, in the right TX weather. Excellent...powerful...margaritas and very attentive service. And so many different great dishes...not your average Tex Mex.

All the reviews are super good. The true is the food is not bad but is not really good neither. The ambience is just OK, the service just fine... San Antonio has the beautiful Riverwalk so no need to go far just for this experience....More

We found this place using the review from Trip Advisor. This restaurant far exceeded our expectations! The service was incredible- she talked to us in depth about several menu items. When we told her we were from Alabama, she gave us a free appetizer! Drinks...More

Visiting my sister-in-law in San Antonio, we went out for a nice dinner at La Fonda. A somewhat small menu, it had very interesting dishes on it. I ordered the duck tacos - and oh boy! What a delight! Of course, everyone enjoyed their dinners...More

Allen Flowers - They are very close, maybe 1/2 mile at most - southeast of La Fonda on McCullogh, which is parallel to Main and a block east.

Give them a call about the puffy tacos! It is not infrequent that something will not be on a menu, but they make it for you! The current owner John Berry (I think son of the founder), is very good. I also second the... More
