Folks enjoy the neighborhood feel and there are many regulars. You can easily spend as much for a custom coffee and pastry as you could for a full lunch at most other Santa Fe eateries.

Within walking distance to most of the east side neighborhood, this locals hangout makes great coffee drinks, chai and teas. Their newspaper and magazine rack is terrific so there's no shortage of things to read. Outside seating in the side patio during warmer months is...More

We were perhaps the only tourists at this local coffee shop. Everyone seemed to know each other. Breakfast burrito - excellent - and pastry - excellent. Good coffee, a free refill. Very pretty outside seating area/patio. Friendly service. Cool concept with magazines and books available....More

In a city filled with great coffee shops, this one is pretty special. Not only can you drink your favourite beverage, you can read one of the many magazines displayed along the racks for that purpose, making this a great place to stop off when...More

Wonderful local hangout for coffee. Much better than Starbucks or other options in town. Great place to sit and read a magazine over coffee or log on to WiFi and relax. Food options are limited. Microwaved quiche or premise burrito are about the best one...More

Great coffee stop while on canyon road. It's a bit out of way but such a relaxing spot. Little book store has fabulous selection of books and magazines.

Cute little coffee shop with a huge magazine section next to Garcia books. They offer quiche, coffee/coffee drinks, teas, and pastries. I had a spinach bacon quiche which was wonderful! The crust was just right and the flavors melded perfectly. The roobios tea was freshly...More

One of the most popular places to have coffee in Santa Fe. One of the few places you can buy a New York Times anytime!

Questions & Answers
Hello, This is a reply to the message posted by ccmick66, owner of Downtown Subscription. This is the only way I can see to do it, as I could find no "reply" option. Thank you for your thoughtful response, Casey. Please understand that I aim for fairness in all my reviews. I simply called it as I saw it. Let me elaborate. I used to go to DS often several years ago, and would see a few local/regulars mixed in with tourists. In the past month I visited a couple of times and the customers I saw sitting inside did not at all look like locals, per my subjective view. I didn't recognize a single one, although I don't claim to know everyone in Santa Fe despite living here. If you are correct that 90% of customers are "local regulars", then either I'm plain wrong, the days I visited were anomalous for some reason, or ? But why don't I have a similar take on certain other cafes? Dunno, but I guess I do question the 90% statistic. In any case, what I wrote was my honest impression -- and that's the best I can do. I continue to enjoy the coffee drinks at Downtown Subscription and intend to continue going there in the future. Thanks again, Elventhing
