This has to be one of our favorite places to eat on the island. We headed straight from the airport to Helena's to get our fix. Traditional Hawaiian fare with family recipies handed down...doesn't get any better than that. The staff is extremely friendly and accomodating. The food is understated and OUTSTANDING at the same time, no tiny plates with... More

I tried this place yesterday based on the reviews I read. Everything was even better than we imagined. I had B and also opted for adding the chicken. I have to say that it did not look like anything special and I was hesitant to try it, but it was amazing. Chicken with taro leaves and coconut milk. The short... More

We went twice to bring visitors to experience the Hawaiian food. THe setting is "rustic" (euphemism) zero atmosphere but perhaps that is the "local" atmosphere (I am a transplant...). The food is authentic according to my local born hubby...but since then nicer setting/atmosphere Hawaiian food places have opened to take visitors.

We took the city bus from Waikiki out to Helena's on one of the few days that it was open. Worth the trip! It's a bit of a hole in the wall, but the service is friendly, fast and efficient. We have kailua pig, and other things all mixed with poi and rice. I really enjoyed the meal.

You really have to have a craving for Hawaiian food. Its hard to get in (lines) and to figure out when it is open for dinner: lunch time is more predictable. Parking is limited. Decor is non-existent. I tried the boiled Butter fish with water cress, Tasty.

Having read about this small, cash-only restaurant I thought I'd check it out during my one day in Honolulu (due to a layover), unfortunately I was left a little disappointed. It took about 20 minutes to wait for a table around 11am on a Thursday, so it's obviously a local favourite. The meat (pig and ribs) were good as was... More

We ordered take out for a group of 8 (the wait for a table our size was just a little too long for the kids to wait out). We asked for help ordering and got suggestions on a variety of food and every dish was delicious! Our entire order came out to under $100 and we had leftovers. Great quality... More
