In the front of the bar there is a small seating area for those who wish to have dinner and not be hit upon by drunks. This is so quaint and a group of traveling Nicaraguan troubadours visits every night to serenade people. I was SO embarrassed when they serenaded me for free. And they did it very time. I... More

I stopped by Picoteo Cafe a few times for a cold beer on my many walks down the main street in Matagalpa..The beer was always cold and the staff were always courteous and professional. I decided to have lunch one day and was a disappointed. I had the burger which was OK but they were extra tight on the french... More

Picoteos was the place to visit as a visitor to Matagalpa several years ago, but it's charms have worn off with time and needs a good renovation. WiFi, much improved service, and an updated menu are just a few of the items the owner won't address. It is a good place for they guys to hang out at, but don't... More

This place is a pub, as such it is exactly what it is supposed to be. You can buy Nicaraguan and Cuban cigars to smoke there or take with you. The food is pub food, greasy good and cheap. Musicians wander through at night and will play requests for tips. Awesome.

picoteo s one of my favorite spots. packed with locals and reasonably priced, this is a fun place to go after work. its a pretty male-heavy place, so sometimes the machismo vibe is pretty strong.

I stopped here for lunch and ordered a cheeseburger and fries. After eating at several disappointing restaurants in Matagalpa yesterday, I was pleasantly surprised by Picoteo Cafe. I was the only customer in the restaurant at the time. Service was quick and the burger was delicious. It was prepared differently than in the United States. The meat appeared to have... More

The food is inconsistent at best.....my spouse and I have not eaten there in the last two years due to poorly prepared food. The service also is inconsistent. The upside is that it is a good place to have a couple of beverages and mingle with locals who are, for the most part very friendly. Caution here..keep accurate and separate... More

Unfortunately, this place feels that they can run 30 odd tables with one waitress/server. It is more a bar than a cafe and that's their strong point, so if you are hungry better to go someplace else. I ordered a taco mix plate and was after waiting for over 30 minutes, was brought a cold, nasty plate which I refused... More

I stopped in for a couple of beers and a bite to eat. It was refreshing to be the only gringa in site. The service was good and the beer was cold. For about 160 cordobas I had 2 beers, a quesadilla and a plate with tostones, frijoles, and queso Frito.

I visited the cafe with two friends after reading a review in the Lonely Planet guide. We were disappointed as the cafe was more like a low end bar with tables with huge amounts of beer bottles on them and lots of cigarette smoke. The coffee was weak although the flavour was good. I ordered milk but the waiter explained... More
