Lovely little store ticked away down a little street but interesting to visit and look at all the historic paraphernalia but it was hard to get served. Loads of Italian families in over Easter talking over each other and pushing in. Rather spoiled the moment and opportunity to taste the different chocolates. I bought a 70% bar by picking it... This is a must place to visit. We had an arranged tour. You first of all get decked out in a 'surgeons' cap and gown and after an introductory talk on the history of the cocoa bean and its production you go into the kitchen to see the chocolate being made. The chocolate mix is only heated to 40 degrees... More

Modica is the centre of chocolate making in Sicily and chocolate made here is unlike any chocolate made elsewhere with its grainy, crunchy texture. This establishment is Sicily's oldest chocolate manufacturer and has been making the product since 1880. You can watch the original production process in the factory and taste the various flavoured chocolate. Other sweet products are also... More

They sell chocolate bars here, and have samples, but I'm not a big fan of modica chocolate. It's a bit grainy for me. Their cannoli however, wow!! So good I had it filled with half ricotta half pistachio. It's not overly sweet like I've found many to be, it's just perfectly delicious! They cost 1.80 euro and were so good... More

Exquisite chocolate, manufactured. Provides a wide range of flavors, varying from the traditional to exotic. Friendly english speaking staff.

OVERALL: Made me appreciate chocolate even more as I saw and tasted the original way of making chocolate. Also, they do filled-to-order cannolis (pistachio) with in -house made shells. Its rare to find a place where you get to experience the original form. Over time we've refined, refined, refined. Think about modern sandwiches, a foot long and 1/2in of meat,... More

This is the temple of chocolate. They make chocolate in the same way as in the 16th century, when the Spanish occupants of Sicily imported chocolate beans directly their colonies in Central/South America. Modicano chocolate is different from any other. There is no butter or milk in it, only cocoa, sugar and flavors. The array of flavours is amazing, and... More

Stopped on our way and weren't disappointed. Even brought a bottle of the chocolate liquor home. Cool, the influence on Italian cuisine from South America includes not only chocolate, but the tomato!

Best chocolate in town (that means basically the best you can find in Italy or so). Perfect for souvenirs or gifts.

This chocolate shop is a wonderful piece of living history. Run by the same family for generations, they still make their chocolates according to ancient recipes - and the results are sheer bliss. In addition to their huge range of chocolates they also make pistachio cannoli which are "to die for". This shop alone is a reason to make a... More
