We had spent the afternoon in the wet and cold walking from Lanercost. We were hungry and had discussed along the way that we wanted (possibly needed) suet pudding for dinner. The inn is traditional. The service at the pub is simple and straightforward. The local beer is excellent. And they served steak and ale suet pudding and chips that... More

Enjoyed a delightful Haddock in beer batter with chips and washed down with sensational Prince Bishop Ale. Very friendly staff.

Not a bad place by any stretch but nothing great. Service was quick and attentive, possibly due to being quiet. Cash only when we visited so that limited our choices but that's not their fault - card machines break. Quite small and dark inside but the views from the tables outside are simply stunning, especially at sunset. Loads of parking... More

After a hard slog on Hadrian's wall on a hot day. We popped in to quench our thirst with a pot of tea for two, before booking a meal. On pouring, pure tepid water mixed with the milk to form a pasty non brew. Their was one bag in the pot for two. What do they serve in a pot... More

I wasn't sure what to make of this place, it all seemed quite disorganised. The first issue arose when I ordered a coke, with ice and no lemon, at the bar. Whereupon I was told they had no ice! A pub with no ice?? The second issue was with the menu, and this seems to have been an issue with... More

Nice friendly little pub - a stone's throw from the wonderful Bridge House B&B where we were staying. Well cooked and plentiful food - excellent sirloin; and lovely gammon served with pineapple and egg - no tough decisions needed. Friendly service.

We stopped at this Inn on the Roman Military road on the recomendation of a friend. We were so pleased we did when we saw the menu. Home made Game Pies - I had Hare, Pheasant and Venison and my husband had Wild Boar and Duckling - fab pastry and so delicious. The portions were huge, veggies cooked to perfection,... More

Wainwright on tap as well as other fine ales. The chicken and mushroom pie was excellent and like homemade. Friendly staff and nice warm room. Recommended.
