A nice little cafe visited with some of my family. We all ordered different coffees and also tried the stottie. The lady serving us was very pleasant and efficient. I would go back.

Many thannks for the kind review. I do seem to spend a lot of time explaining what a "stottie" is.

It was great to find a cafe that was actually open after 4pm on a Saturday, especially such a nice one. We just had a drink, but thoroughly enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and owner. Even the outside gents toilet was a treat ! Next time...More

Yes the gents toilet is a bit of a throwback! The pull flush confuses many of the younger generation. Glad you enjoyed your visit (no pun intended!) and hope to see you again.

Told when we arrived that they were busy as they were short staffed. We had a thirty minute wait for two bowls of soup. Soup was definitely not worth the wait.More

I am sorry you were disappointed with your experience. However, I did explain to you when you arrived that there would be a wait as I was on my own for half an hour and that the days fresh soup had sold out. You elected...More

No coffee machine and 20 mins for a filter. Probably good for Haltwhistle though. Party of 5 geriatrics walked in. Confused the staff. Saw it would be carnage so just ordered a filter coffee. Decided to go to the co-op for a sandwich instead. Understaffed....More

We popped in for a quick bite before visiting the Roman Army museum and really enjoyed the delicious soups and sandwiches. The bread that came with the soups was incredible - moist and nutty and simply delicious. The friendly woman serving managed to both make...More

Thank you for your review. I am pleased you enjoyed your visit. The "friendly lady" was my very capable manager, Kirsty, who does a stirling job, both in the kitchen and front of house. Couldn't manage without her...

We stumbled across Kasteale yesterday (after not at first realising it was a cafe due to the unusual name and discrete signage) but are so glad we did. We were welcomed warmly and openly, and pleased to find that as well as delicious wholesome cakes...More

thankyou Sarah, for taking the time to review. I am glad you enjoyed the cakes. THe date and oat slice is a firm favourite on the menu now. It is a "Cranks" recipe from their original shop back in the 60's. For those who don't...More
