Actually the waitress was nice. I wanted to dine there is because of the ratings here. But sorry. Either these guys had never a good meal or they give all the time 5 stars. Meals were small and it was quite expensive. I would not recommend it.

Delicious food - not based on comparison to local restaurants but in comparison to anywhere! The gnocchi with tomato sauce was flavoured perfectly and melted in the mouth; the salad was fresh with warm sliced pear on top and blue cheese dressing. No SVP here (seasonal vegetable platters) - as a vegetarian you will be eating well! The dessert ...amazing!... More

My husband and I stopped here after our Black Labyrinth tour, and it was easily one of our best meals in New Zealand. I ordered the Mini Lamb Burgers, which were absolutely brilliant, and my SO ordered the roasted duck leg with kumara mash and salad. He loved it (it was delicious), but we both agreed the lamb burgers were... More

Glad we booked as upstairs was booked out for an event so we dined downstairs. Great atmosphere with character. Menu not extensive but food was outstanding. We paid NZ$100 for two mains, desserts and drinks.

Came across HUHU as a roadside brewery and cafe while driving between Hobbiton and the Glow Worm caves. We needed lunch before going into the cave. The meal was fresh and delicious. Two of us enjoyed the green neck mussels and two of us devoured the chicken fingers. We had been tasting green neck mussels all across the country while... More

We had quite a large group booking with a set menu. I have some unusual dietary requirements and the chef made sure that they provided me with a delicious meal that catered for those issues, without any fuss. Very impressed.

Just across the road from my B & B (the table was booked for me by the proprietor) – smallish interesting menu with one or two of each protein for mains and including some nice starters – I opted for the ‘Silver Fern’ rump which was cooked to perfection as ordered with a pepper sauce – an unusual dry slaw... We went for dinner as it was right across the street from our lodging. Everything was delicious! Fresh squeezed Feijoa juice, pancetta wrapped chicken, peanut butter parfait, all highly recommended. Service was friendly and prompt, the decor was attractive, all around a great place.

Had the steak, which was excellent. My wife had the Lamb burgers which she said were lovely. I can see why this place has won awards. We here staying over the road and came on the recommendation of the couple who ran the lodge. Glad we did, fantastic meal :)

Thank Peter C

HUHU Cafe offers visitors to Waitomo the opportunity to sample great New Zealand cuisine in a beautiful setting. We offer a delicious evening menu, perfect for enjoying with a cold one on the sunny deck after a hard day's caving or glow-worm spotting! You can enjoy delicious treats such as Caramelised Garlic & Goats Cheese Tart, Wild Rabbit Hotpot, Organic Rib-Eye, Dark Chocolate Souffle & Poached Tamarillos to name but a few (please note that our menu changes on a regular basis, depending on what we can source from our suppliers). Wherever possible, we use local providers - our lamb comes from farms around Te Kuiti, our cheese from Putaruru & our berries (when in season) are from Piopio. Our wine list consists of a number of great New Zealand wine varieties and our beer list features a selection of boutique beers to whet the whistle! Cosy up by our woodburner during the winter months or chill out on our deck over summer... Have we tempted your tastebuds? Well then, we look forward to seeing you at HUHU sometime soon!
