Growing up around Whakatane durning the 80s/90s we had fish and chip shops and the odd basic cafe,I left to explore the world in 2000, Now when I come back to visit, L'Epicerie it's a must, best French cafe I've been to in the world from the friendly welcome from the staff to the best coffee in town and you... We had an absolutely delicious breakfast on Anzac Day. Crepes with ham, eggs, spinach and a touch of hollandaise. Warm, friendly welcome and excellent service. Can't wait to come again!

Fantastic coffee, and croissant to die for! Great place to sit on your own and watch the world go by over a delicious pastry and coffee, or have lunch with friends. They even do great decaf (their own roast! ) and offer almond milk!

Nice French food and worth walking to as it's in a bit of an odd location. Really good croissants are worth a try.

Took my daughter for a treat. We destroyed the crepes in under a minute. Lovely and light with real cream. Excellent coffee. They also have an impressive cake and pastry selection which I was too full to sample. Also a nice selection of savoury cafe sandwiches and baking but the crepes are our favourite. Savoury crepe and gallette options too... More

Great place for a coffee and a genuine galette, or crepe. The staff are young, and often French travellers passing through New Zealand. The owners are committed to sharing some french experience with the customers. French decor and background music, and some tasty imported cheese and other European foods.

At first I was a little put off by the small portion size of the food. I chose from the cabinet of Quiches and small pasties, and had a classic Quiche Lorraine, with a delicious coffee (in fact I had two). However, with keeping with the french approach the portion size was a forgotten issue as the food was presented... More

Nice place to chill out and have a nice breakfast. The furniture in my view could be updated. Great service!
