We called in for tea and a light snack prior to walking along the river Trent. The service was fairly prompt and the Tea served tasted great. The toasties were made using granary bread and were properly filled. I had an interesting type of chutney which certainly offered a distinct taste. The Tea Room is packed full of interesting artifacts... More

We went twice this week. Just for breakfast cobs, and then sandwiches. It's tremendous. Fascinating interior, with dozens of jugs hanging from the ceiling, lots of photos, models of canal boats, tobacco tins.. And an extensive menu, with usual tea room stuff, and some extras (from veggie bakes to tripe). Great sandwich choices eg cheese and beetroot. A lot of... More

Excellent small tea room. Many home made cakes with fresh made snacks (hot and cold). Tea served in actual tea pots too. A little haven with both inside and outside seating.

We walked past again today as we often do when out for a walk along the canal, it was closed. There is an opening times list but today it was closed in spite of the list (for Christmas - a cafe?). It's a couple of years since we've caught it open.

Hi. I hope you enjoyed your walk. There is a board next to the opening times explaining that we will be closed for a family Christmas and new year. We re open on January 4th 2017 when we revert to the same opening hours which we have used for the past 15 years. We close on a Monday and Tuesday.... More

Out for a winter walk with a friend, we had a choice of two pubs and a tea room. Unusually we chose the tea room and were pleased withour choice. We sat in a parlour full of canal memorabilia and drank hot chocolate; ideal for a December morning. Others were sitting outside and enjoying the sunshine; the seating area being... More

Came here for a bit of lunch with my partner and his parents. The place is filthy. The carpet is disgusting, don't know when it was last hoovered. Everything is dusty. The menus were stuck together with god knows what. The toilet stink of cleaner (which was stacked up in there) but I'm not sure what has been cleaned because... More

Situated in a perfect spot at Trent Lock, surrounded by several pubs. We needed a warming cuppa, and opted for a cream tea each which was very nicely presented. Not sure if scone was made on the premises. There were lots of big cakes which looked home made, available to buy by the slice. The Old Country Roses china was a... More

Great place to visit for morning, or early afternoon drinks and something lite to eat. Lunches are good as well.

Set beside the Erewash canal with views over the River Trent and River Soar, theTea Room specialises in good old fashioned cooking. The house dates from 1794 and features many items relating to the canals and local life - almost a museum there is so much to look at, bringing back memories for many and discovery for others.
The Ashby family offer a warm welcome and a menu to delight visitors. There is a choice of over 60 different teas and a selection of speciality coffees. Choose from Cornish Clotted Cream Teas, hot toasties, tripe and onions, jacket potatoes, rabbit stew and various salads to name but a few as well as the famous prawn tea. Relish the knickerbocker glory - reputedly the largest for miles around. In Summer, the Victorian style ice cream cart offers a variety of unusual ice cream flavours - many of them homemade.
Locally there are lots of walks and cycle routes for those with a passion for exercise and those who just prefer a little saunter.
