Nice restaurant due to location and the buzz

As you will read here, this restaurant gets mixed reviews. We have been here over the winter for the past three months and visited again this summer. Yes, it's pricey due to its location and yes, the service at times, depending on who you have assigned to your table may be a little slow. However you cannot beat the setting, the food is OK but it has a lovely buzz and it's nice to just watch the world go buy. Is it our top restaurant in the area no, but do we always make sure we visit here, yes. The tenderloin is delicious, the fideau was lovely and they have a great selection of desserts!

What a difficult place to review, we have visited a few times and it has been the same each time. The positive of course is the location it is simply wonderful. If you wish to eat with a fantastic view then this is the place to be. However it is pricey a coffee will cost you double what it would be in any other town. There is a cockiness about the service even when you stand politely to the side to let them through they will barge past you without a consideration for the customer. We asked if there was a flavour to the cheesecake of the day, the response was “ cheese flavour”. Make of that response what you will. I would say there is a confidence that the location will cover all other weaknesses. With a growing number of alternative restaurants many with better reviews, it might be worth looking at them before visiting KE.

Shared a Californian taco as a starter. It says it’s spicy but actually it’s not ‘hot’ spicy. Absolutely gorgeous. Says it contains lobster and prawns. Not sure we had any lobster but delicious none the less. Definitely too large for one person as a starter and pricey at 32€. Hubby had the burger which he enjoyed and was cooked as he liked it medium rare. I had baby squid with delicious garlic alioli. Great setting on the beach. Will visit again.

Who do they think they are?

My friend, who lives near the restaurant said that the snooty people of Sotogrande only go here because the restaurant staff say it is the place to go to be seen! Whilst that didn't appeal to me, we were a group of 6 and this was the only place that could accommodate us. The food was incredibly over-rated - everything was smothered in creamy sauce. The restaurant itself was nicely decorated and the furniture comfortable but the service was cold and robotic - we watched all the waiters and they behave as if they don't want you there, unless you have money or are in the Sotogrande clique! It was efficient but to the point where they bang the plates on the table and rush away. They really seem to just want you to leave. Everything was that bit more expensive too. It is clear to see that they only have time for the guests they know, the ones who will spend the most amount of money. I don't know who they think they are but we will not be going back. (I actually went here for coffee twice last year and it was the same then). Maybe teach the staff how to smile!

Total rubbish

Great location but a total rip off. We had a few tapas which were ok but nothing more. Then we ordered a Gambas Pil Pil which arrived like warm with 6 prawns in. No bread was offered and it was a poor tasting dish When we got the bill they charged us €30 for that dish that everywhere in Spain is €12 per dish. An argument with the manager culminated with him claiming they pay €160 per kilo for the prawns. What a load of tosh. Better prawns than that cost €8-9 per kilo every where The whole experience was poor- zero customer service and a total rip off Beware the great con of Sotogrande

A total farce to the tune of 88€ for three burgers.

This place has obviously some sort of monopoly as it seems that they do not really pay attention to anything they are doing. We were only three people ordering three Waggy Burgers. A basket of bread was casually thrown on the table it later turned out to the tune of 6€. The burgers arrived and two was totally raw, I mean totally raw. After a long-winded debate whether they would replace them as the had been eaten of (two mouthful) the finally came back but was now like rubber footwear. We gave up and paid a whopping 88€. Never again.

Went for breakfast, wouldn’t

Went for breakfast, wouldn’t bother. Toasted Lidl roll, cold croissant with cheese and ham and some churros with packets of sugar for coffee to sprinkle on, no dip. Literally not even as good as can make at home easily. Orange juice was excellent, nice location. I probably won’t return

Disappointing lunch

We have been to the Ke many times in the past but this was our first visit since the extension and refit. The setting is lovely and the new decked area with outside heaters is excellent. However it seems the Ke is now only interested in catering for full meals as the tapas/light lunch options are very disappointing. A previous reviewer commented on the poor baguettes and we have to agree. Our baguettes were mainly bread with little filling other than mayonnaise. Where was the chicken and crab as stated on the menu? Also there was no salad garnish and the presentation left a lot to be desired. The Ke is still a great place for a drink but we won't be ordering food in future.

We have family in the area and visit KE each year, we usually come for an evening meal alone as a couple and last came in summer 2023, we spent approximately €400 and were treated very well. We turned up today for lunch with our two (well behaved) children, the woman at front of house looked us up and down and acted as though asking for a table was possibly the most taxing thing she had been asked to do in her life thus far, I should have gone elsewhere at this point, but due to previous experience I decided to ignore it. Waiting staff were mostly absent and curt when occasionally present. We waited ten minutes for a menu (just one example of the repeatedly slow and lacking service) They were clearly desperate to get away whilst we ordered, looking around/toe tapping and were asked 'no wine?!' very rudely, In disbelief at our drinks order. Food was average, had far better elsewhere but it is not the worst, previously was much better. Attempting to pay the bill was frustrating and we sat with the card on the table for approximately fifteen minutes, they only actually came to take payment when I got up and started to get the children ready to leave. We will not be revisiting and will have to try somewhere else on the marina for future visits, what a shame.

First time ever I went to KE on recommendation of a friend living in Sotogrande, Obviously its a famous place, so famous that first of all no waiter took notice of us when looking to be seated. A waitress offered us the worst table of all when 50% of the tables were empty. Then service by a waiter was incredibly rude. He was standing behind me listening to my order when I asked him to stay in front of me to be able to see him. Very unwillingly he followed my wish hardly accepting my order in Spanish. What a behavior?! Never ever again!!!

Please Train your staff

The ambiance of this restaurant is great , but that’s where it stops . Our lunch was very disappointing , overpriced and badly set for the meals ordered . When we asked for Salt & Pepper , they counted out , 2 salt ( size of my thumb nail) and 1 pepper . The oil and vinegar was requested and the Mayo took for ever to arrive . One order arrive incorrectly and took for ever to replace , meanwhile the 1st meal was getting cold . To cap it all , we observed a lady in wheelchair was taken to the toilet by her husband, while they were absent, 2 hot meals were left to get cold . I could go on and on , but I’m sure u get the drift . The food is mediocre and staff careless.

Disappointed

Lovely spot over looking the marine but unfortunately food was average, especially for the price. We visited with our two children not a great selection for younger ones. I had garlic chicken breast which was chick thigh, dry and lacking flavour. My husband had fish which was average. Feel there are better quality restaurants in the area

Great location, top food and caring personnel. Starters are to be tasted, especially anchovies in oil. The art of cutting serrano ham in front of everybody is also a nice detail.

Deplorable Food

The KE salad comprises Eisberg salad, a chunk of canned tuna, some maize and anciovies (both also from a can), 1/2 avocado. All thrown on the plate without any attempt of arrangment. No dressing. Price 13 EU for lunch. Bread (Lidl rolls) extra. Service robotic.

A lovely evening

We were worried about visiting due to all the recent reviews but we decided to go for it and decide ourselves. We booked ahead for 8.30pm. We arrived at 8pm (as we thought this is when we’d booked for) and we waited in a nice area by the bar. We had a cocktail and beer which was swiftly made. Our table was ready by 8.20pm so our drinks were carried over and we were seated. This is one of my two areas of improvement - we were asked by four waiters in a space of five minutes whether we were ready to order. Waiters did not seem to have set tables they were serving so they were unsure on whether a drink or food order had been taken! We don’t like being rushed to order and haven’t even had to chance to look over the wide range of food choices from around the world (quite a random mixture!) We had the prawns and gyozas to start which were delicious. Then steak and lamb chops for main which were also cooked as we had requested. We had chocolate pancake for dessert which we couldn’t finish due to the amount of chocolate! Overall we had a really nice evening - a lovely setting and good food! I agree with the comments that some waiters are friendlier than others but as you get a mix it was ok. Some areas of improvement but still a good experience overall for us which is why I’ve given it 5*.
