Seven years on and still good - but (unfortunately) let down by the service

I last reviewed Pura Tapa in 2013 but have visited several times each year (in the winter) since. The quality of the food has been maintained and the cooking is very good. What lets Pura Tapa down is the front of house especially when it is busy. Staff, although very friendly, do not seem to be well trained (and frequently change) -completely different staff this year to last. They don't watch the tables so if you want a desert or coffee you can wait for an age for the table to be cleared to make your request. For those who object to the order food appears the answer is easy - order a course at a time, ordering the next course when the first appears! Easy! So we enjoy Pura Tapa and its survival in Torreguadioro is testament to its quality as competition is fierce and under performing establishments do not last. Keep up the good work but improve front of house!

Was better in days gone by!

I have been coming here for 9 years regularly living not too far from Torreguadiaro. It has and in some ways still is the model of what a fusion tapas restaurant should be. The staff always good , nice decor and a good menu. Still having just been it's lost it's buzz a bit. No longer it seems THE place to visit and I might put that down to the size of the portions. Everything except the Cuernos (bought in) remained the same portion wise. Argentinean Empanadas never taste the same twice with seemingly 100 different recipes they use. A glass of wine now reduced to a splash and whilst everyone has had it hard with Covid the customer has had a hard time too. More of how it was before would be an improvement and outdo the competition. I'll be back as conditions improve but hoping for some improvement in the months ahead. In short smaller measures at same price across the board without raising the bar isn't good business acumen!

Beautiful experience

We were in Pura Tapas last week. What a beautiful experience. Staff was friendly and professional from the moment we arrived. The Manageress (Maria, i think her name was) was running the show very professionally. Food selection is very interesting, tapas style obviously. We'll definitely go back.

Drinks at exorbitant price and count much higher than you expect

Small and very expensive tapas, mineral water and roasted beer at exorbitant price. Four people, two tapas each, with normal drinks, 86.40 euros. The food's fine, but it's not like it's Ferrán Adriá enough to charge that. There are lots of sites that offer better quality at lower prices.

Very tasty food, nicely presented; staff very friendly and accommodating. We were given a table for 4 people in the evening without having made a reservation. We were so impressed by the first evening that we extended our stay by a day and ate there again the next evening. Extremely satisfied, excellent value for money.

I usually love this Restuarant, but went on Monday evening and I was very disappointed ,food was not up to its usual standard .The staff where uncaring and not friendly .One again unusual . Hope the Resturant hasn’t changed hands as I giving it a break, to see if on my return it’s back to normal . Hope you see this guys .! Fingers crossed

A nice place (even if located in a not very beautiful main street)…where the rather copious tapas are excellent. Fast service…efficient and…smiling Reasonable prices rosé “de la casa” good.. we went there 3 times in 10 days (opening in the evening at 7:30 p.m.)… I really liked the teriyaki chicken and the small burger… at the moment small choice of dessert

Food very was nice apart from falafel was cold in the centre. The Russian salad is probably the best around. Tuna tataki is also excellent. The service was a little slow and I think they could do with additional staff. But overall a very enjoyable evening.

We visited for a drink with friends and the staff were unfriendly and rude. We asked to speak to the person in charge because they said we were too loud although there were only four of us. (Didn't realise we were in a library.) Staff refused to call a cab for us. Unpleasant experience definitely will not be back.

Great food, nice setting, acquired taste of music

Food was excellent, skirt steak with mash really good, ribs good, pork cheek one of the most tender we’ve had, nice Russian salad and others were good too, none of the food was poor. Good service and very reasonably priced. Only thing I would improve would be the comfort of the high table seats and the music, it just didn’t go with the atmosphere.

Disappointed, heard lots about this place. But wasn’t great, poor quality, slow service. Last tapas came 1 hour after ordering it. Much prefer the other tapas next door

In my opinion the best tapa bar in the area.The food is absolutely dilicious. It is quite pricy but it is worth it. Always lovely and varied food. Defenitely recommend it. 10/10

We found this tapas bar where the quality of food is almost haute cuisine. We stayed in the area 10 days and kept coming back. Whatever you order is delicious.
