We found this lovely gem of a pub/Restaurant traveling back from Plymouth to Portsmouth. It was exactly what we were looking for, on arrival there was no trouble to find us a lovely big table next to the garden with a small children's park, It...More

Several dishes unavailable from specials board. Choice from main (and rather pretentious) menu was acceptable. Staff covering inadequacies of the establishment with large doses of effusive bonhomie became rather wearing over the course of the evening. Coffee would have been nice to finish the evening...More

Six couples and their babies enjoyed a delicious light lunch. Most of us ordered baguettes which arrived promptly. Tasty fillings, delicious fries and fresh salad. Butcombe ale was good too. Staff were busy but always friendly. The beer garden is spacious but grass needs cutting...More

Two staff to run the bar and wait on all tables in this sizable establishment was a disaster. The two stars are for the staff who tried and always smiled. They did their best but the owners need to get their act together if previous...More

I went to the Blue Vinny recently for a family meal. Not knowing before hand that they did wood fired pizza on a Tuesday and a Sunday. Highly recommend the pizza! You can see the pizza being prepared and cooked so freshness is guaranteed. I...More

Description
Roly and Helen Harries took over this traditional village pub in Puddletown, near Dorchester in May 2013. Keeping the very best of the old, they set about combining its warm, friendly country ambience with a cool, airy modern interior - part of a style that is reflected in their approach to the food and hospitality. Something for which this bar and restaurant is rapidly gaining a first-class reputation. The food is home cooked, and where possible the ingredients are seasonal and sourced locally from friends or trusted specialist suppliers. The wines have been chosen to complement the menu, and there is always a range of excellent guest ales on tap.Together with Head Chef Danny Durose and his team, they've created a menu that reflects their personal tastes, with a truly international approach - a style that owes as much to the hot islands of the Mediterranean as it does to the classic and everyday dishes of Britain and mainland Europe. Roly and Helen with Children Thomas and Benjamin are passionate about producing the very best food at accessible prices, as well as extending a warm and friendly welcome to locals and visitors alike.
