I was told Il Bacaro has to be the best Italian restaurant in Penang. I hsve only been to this one Italian restaurant in Penang so I cannot validate this statement. But what I can say that they serve juicy rib eye steak done to...perfection, charcoal pizza, tasty risotto and an eye-catching and very filling antipasti platter. The service was quick and the staff were friendly. Would I come back? In a heartbeat!More

We’re not locals so we randomly googled “restaurants near us” We were looking for a resto that is still open at 930pm, can accept a last minute reservation and near our hotel - IL Bacaro fit the bill. We did not have any expectations but...the restaurant impressed us with its impeccable service, charming interiors and ambiance and amazing food! Highly recommended! The dinner was DELICIOUS! I think one of the best restaurants in town. The place is very cozy and well furnitured, elegant and tasteful. The owners (husband and wife) are very friendly.

This was our second visit with some friends who hadn’t been before. We had such a super evening on our previous visit however somehow this visit wasn’t as good mainly because the restaurant was too hot to eat comfortably and we were also assigned a...table right by the main door of the restaurant which was annoying with people entering and leaving every so often. Food wise it was excellent and the portions very generous, in particular the Garlic Clams and Shrimps was to die for and a must have, as were the Shoulder of Lamb which melted in your mouth. The Pasta with Ragu was delicious with large chunks of beef and the Seafood Spaghetti was super! Service was excellent as usual and wine service was very efficient and reasonably priced. The only thing letting the experience down was the discomfort of eating in the heat and humidity despite the fans spinning furiously, and the fact we had the worse table in the house, even though we booked…. Will we come back? Hmmm… not sure.More

By far the best Pizza we ever had. I never thought that going to Penang Malaysia we would find good pizza but they far exceeded our expectations. We got the Inferno Nero Pizza, the flavors were incredible and the crust was cooked perfectly. We highly...recommend going to Il bacaro. You will not be disappointed. We most strongly recommend everyone to look at the daily specials; these dishes are special because the particular ingredients are in season or immediately available (like burrata), or because the chef takes a fancy to a flavor combination worth sharing. You will not be disappointed...to move above and beyond the common expectation of Italian food. The two of us shared an appetizer of small, stewed calamari with peas, followec by burrata with tempura vegetables, and pumpkin risotto with bacon, duck and - gorgonzola. These flavor combinations satisfy taste and will leave you quite full. Il Bacaro has a great wine selection (in company of four persons or more do begin with their proseccos), and their house wines by the glass are first rate. The last year and more has worn down everyone and with a return to normal life so do we return to Il Bacaro as weekly regulars to leave plates empty, bellies full.More

Excellent meal last night in Il Bacaro. Delicious, authentic food and service above and beyond. The restaurant manager even booked us a grab using his personal account. Highly recommended

We had a fantastic evening at Il Bacaro! Service from “J” was exceptional and the food was fabulous! The decor reflected the era of the wonderful building it is housed in and the ambiance of this restaurant was buzzing and superbly nestled in the Campbell...House Building with French windows opening into the street (still with airconditioning and ceiling fans) which kept the restaurant cool and airy. It was a busy night when we arrived, and in some restaurants you worry that the service will be slow, but everything flowed smoothly and attentively throughout the evening for our table of 4. We had one of the sharing platters for starter with a salad and it was delicious! The garlic clams were to die for as were the breaded Mantis prawns.. The Spinach salad was refreshing with cubes of chilled watermelon intermixed with it giving it a really special twist! For mains, 2 of us had the Whole baked Seabass which was fresh and delicious however perhaps a tad too much sauce for my liking but they had a grilled option which I should have ordered. Nevertheless the two of us who had it thought it was amazing. My friends wife had the Prawn Risotto which was well presented but slightly on the bland side and my wife had the Spaghetti Vongole which was delicious and the portion size was perfect! On the dessert side we mentioned to “J” that it was my friends wife’s Birthday and they surprised us with a lovely gesture of a Tiramisu served with birthday greetings and 4 teaspoons to share..Thanks so much! There was quite an extensive and well thought out wine list with their house wine listed at RM160. Knowing the high taxes and duties on alcohol in Malaysia, the prices were still very reasonable however we opted to bring our own at RM50 corkage per bottle. Despite bringing our own wine, they still served our wines to us Royally… some places, when you bring your own wine, they leave you to it and just provide the glasses and ice bucket.. Kudos to Il Bacaro! Overall a great restaurant with very attentive, friendly and detailed service and excellent food at a very reasonable price! We will definitely make this one of our regular “Go To” Restaurants in Penang when we have had enough of the wonderful local fare available here!
