Just to clear up any confusion, Grounded technically no longer exists. It was under the same ownership as La Familia but is STILL OPEN. It started as a coffee shop (thus the name Grounded) and then the owner added a take-away pizza place and finally...a sit-down restaurant. They are all in one place but operating under La Familia. Please see my review under La Familia. In short, this place is well worth a visit when in Harrismith. The food is good and the owner and his family are delightful!More

Stopped for brunch after long tiring journey. When my daughter asked for a burger without garnish was assured the kitchen would get it right, when the burger arrived not only did she have garnish but the bread was stale. Sour milk and cold coffee. Unfriendly...staff. Definately, not seeing us againMore

The owners of Grounded, a young couple, are incredible hosts and made us feel welcome the moment we walked in. Real country hospitality enhanced with a cozy ceramic fireplace to combat the cold outside, and the best Mozart cake and cappuccino made this stop-over the...highlight of our journey home. The food served to other tables looked delicious and well presented. The large portions at really good prices is very good value for money. If you are looking for true country hospitality this is the place to go!More

Harrismith was just over halfway with a 4 hour car trip with our 4 & 2yr old boys. We stopped briefly at the big petrol station and were completely overwhelmed with volume of people. A minor detour lead us to this gem of a cafe-...Grounded. Cozy with amazing hospitality, incredibly large and tasty portion sizes of burgers- best of all our kids could run around freely and safely play in the restaurant area. At the same time others traveling with kids were also relieved to have found such a comfortable place to stop and let the kids “run around a bit”, while parents recharged with good coffee ( or milkshakes). Plenty of foreign backpackers seem to stop by. We also overheard the owners recommending many vegan options, which was very well received. Almostly will plan to stop there again for future long road trips!More

On our way from Johannesburg to Montusi we planned to stop for lunch in Harrismith. As always we try to stay clear from the mainstream restaurants and venture into town instead. We consulted Tripadvisor and headed towards Grounded. We were surprised to find the coffee...shop / restaurant in the voyer of a church but the setting works actualy perfectly. What a pleasure to meet Henry the owner and his wife who we understand is also the chef. Henry made us a pot of his special blend filter coffee which was delicious and worth a trip into town if you are a coffee lover. We ordered two gormet sandwiches, one was a roasted chicken with caramalised onion and a delicious dressing while the other one was a bacon avo and feta sandwich. The gormet sandwiches were of the open variety, served on a tasty slice of bread which Henry informed us is their own recipe. If you are looking for someting different, personalised and a wonderful meal please visit Grounded you will not be disappointed. Henry and his wife also gave us wonderful tips and recommendations of coffee shops and resturants around Montusi which we should visit. Thank you guys and we will most definatly be back when we pass thru Harrismith againMore

Probably the best food and service I have EVER had. Henry (the owner) has no problem serving tables himself and does so with a baby on his hip. The food and drinks are unique and superbly made. If you are looking for a great place...to chat/eat/relax don't look anywhere else. Also, do yourself a favour and have a chat with Henry- you will be talking to an intelligent, interesting man. Definitely worth your time.More

This place is a little of the beaten track, but it will be well worth the visit! We left for the Drakensburg from JHB and with usually stopping at the (insanely crazy busy) One Stop in Harrismith this little gem is just a few minutes...from there - the service was impeccable, food was amazing, they were extremely friendly and very accommodating. You can actually sit and enjoy your meal without being surrounded by utter chaos - Did I mention the food was amazing?More

Beautiful coffee stop with a lovely sandwich and brownie.. we left the Drakensberg before sunrise aiming to accomplish a visit to home affairs for passports and new IDs.. after a 2 hour visit to the home affairs coffee was calling. I googled the top 5...spots for coffee and Grounded was in those top 5. Grounded is situated in a church building opposite a private college 5 minutes away from the home affairs. Quite suburban pleasure. To wrap it up.. moresome brownies.2 coffees later and a super fresh sandwich we were ready to leave for our journey back home. To wrap it up... life is too short for bad coffee.. visit grounded for a super cup.More
