Excellent food in a rustic setting

Don't be put off by the exterior of the restaurant. When you arrive it looks like a pub outside, but enter the refurbished 100 year old town house and the restaurant takes on a whole new rustic setting. The staff spoke several languages and were very helpful with the set menu and al a carte choices. I had tuna carpaccio to start and my wife had homemade truffle croquettes - both great choices. My wife then had the beef fillet with truffle risotto and I had fish of the day which was a whole Dorado with vegetables. Again excellent choices accompanied by several glasses of red wine, Can Axartell. The restaurant was full all evening with locals and visitors. Very enjoyable meal and evening.

We made a reservation at 10 p.m. and once seated they served us in a reasonable time due to the large number of customers. An Ibizan couple recommended us to share tapas, four, chopped octopus or cuttlefish and roast meat could not be missing. We tried cod - typical of the place - and Russian salad. All tremendously addictive, very simple presentation, in classic tableware, all homemade but tremendously good. Restaurant to return without fail on every visit to the island.

Gem of a restaurant

Es Cantonet is a gem of restaurant in the very interesting Mallorcan town of Santanyi. The building has been cleverly restored and provides a rustic setting for a great restaurant experience. Mediterranean is an elastic and often meaningless label. Here it is appears to mean judicious use of local ingredients in dishes that show plenty of classical cooking touches. The wine list is not overly long but is well-chosen and contains a few wines from within a 10 km radius of Santanyi. Service was friendly, attentive and prompt. As we left, the chef shouted 'everything fine?'. Thumbs up, and nice to know that service at Es Cantonet pervades the whole operation, from kitchen to table.

We have been regular customers for years and can only say the best! Very nice atmosphere, very good service and excellent food. Value for money is okay. The saddle of lamb and the duo of mousse au chocolat are highly recommended.

First visit, we sat well in the yard and were received friendly. I would have found several dishes on the day menu, but then ordered the menu at the end. Very pleasant and in a good value for money. ( the fish in the main course was a little small ) We will definitely come back.

The food was stellar, the service was super warm and friendly and the atmosphere in the garden was magical. We stayed in Portopetro for one week and this was the only place we booked twice. Do not miss this

Enjoyed delicious meal here, particularly enjoyed carrot, ginger and coconut milk soup and crispy chicken roll with sweet and sour sauce. Good mixture of meat and fish dishes also set menu. Slightly Asian twist to some dishes. Friendly service in very attractive setting.

Very, extremely slow!!! Average quality of the food, beautiful location but the service is too bad..the worst place we visited in Mallorca! No apologies or any kind of discount..100€ for 2 people: 1 entrees + 2 main dishes (no dessert or digestives or coffees)..extremely expensive considering the service! I went out very disappointed and nervous! I don’t suggest this place!

Lovely restaurant but a mixed bag on the food

This is a lovely restaurant in an old house near the outskirts of Santanyí. The courtyard is very pleasant and atmospheric, and the staff is pleasant. We had mixed reactions on the food. The soup and pasta dishes were bland, while the goat cheese and pear starter and lamb main dish were good. I am glad we tried the restaurant, but would not return.

Food is top, we had fish and it was delicious. I would also recommend their desserts and starters. The place is lovely and elegant inside. However, not the cheapest. Highly recommended.

Beautiful courtyard and good service and that's about it. Food was nothing special at all. Worst mix tapas I have ever had. So poor choice on the plate! Lamb shoulder was ok but again nothing special. Quite strong lamb smell from the meat. (Forgot to put the garlic in the meat?)The best were the cooked vegetables. Chef is German and you hear mainly German speaking around. More for German taste for spanish food. Mistake, may be in Santanyi there is not really many Spanish restaurants around.
